The Official "I got my Note 7!" First Impressions Thread

The screen is amazing! Great resolution, brilliant colors, and a good size - especially for someone like me with poor eyesight. I forgot to mention brightness; I've never been able to use auto brightness on a phone and I normally have a screen set at about 90% brightness. I've had no trouble with the Note 7 set to auto brightness, and at less than 50% brightness it's as bright as what I'm used to with other phone screens set to 90%. Finally, I tried TouchWiz and it has been improved over what I saw on the Note 4, but I quickly switched to Nova Prime. I also replaced the default apps with my favorites: Chrome, True Phone, Textra, and TypeApp (mail).

I FINALLY got it! I haven't had a chance to really appreciate or enjoy the Note 7 yet, because every single step of this whole process has been one PITA after another. After signing for it at Sam's Club, apparently Verizon turned off cell data to my Moto X Pure, expecting that I would just pop my SIM into a Note 7 that I hadn't even set up yet. THEN I got home and had a helluva time trying to figure out how to connect the two devices (easier said than done... at least it was for me today).

Now I think I have it figured out. Smart Switch is doing its thing.

It does feel good in hand, and the screen is remarkable. I hope you all are having a better setup experience than I am!

I am going to see how the new touchwiz works. I may go back to Nova prime however as I really like it. Let us know how Nova works on the N7.

Did Smart Switch migrate the data over for each app?

Keep the settings, etc. ?

Nope, none that I can see. I had to log into every single app and set them all up again. Of course, I couldn't pair my smartwatch with the Note 7 without un-pairing it from the old phone... which factory resets the watch! UGHHH

Nova Prime is working fine. The only problem I have encountered is that using a double tap to lock the screen requires the use of a PIN to unlock, but that is a problem with Marshmallow.

Have you guys figured out the trick to fast charging? I tried fast wireless charging and plugging it into the wall. Over a 30-minute period the battery only went up 5%! What the heck am I missing here?
You have something wrong then. My first charge was from 22% to 100% in 1hrs time with the wall plug in they give you in the box. I didn't do anything fancy. Just plugged it in.

I can't find a setting that I may have changed... I just took it out of the box! I'll have a chat with Samsung...

EDIT: Samsung CSR seems to think that something's wrong with the charging circuit, and it isn't fast charging. I can't even finish setting it up, because it's discharging faster than I can charge it. He recommended swapping it out. That's really gonna frost me, because that's a DAY'S effort wasted!

Well, I'm NOT impressed so far. This phone does NOT fast charge. Verizon won't touch it, because I bought it at Sam's Club. Sam's Club doesn't have a spare to swap it out... they only got enough in to fill the pre-orders. So I'm pretty much royally screwed with either (a) charging it at a snail's pace and setting it up in stages as it charges; or (b) having Samsung send me one, which means I have to spend yet ANOTHER day setting it up. SMH

My first Note 7 came yesterday. During the Smart Switch the Note's battery died, and the phone was bricked. Spent an hour on the phone with Samsung support who told me to take it to Best Buy and have it reflashed. Took it there, they could not get into it to reflash it, it was bricked. So then they told me to take it to Verizon for a replacement. Went to the Verizon Store (corporate) and was told that the store officially couldn't release it until today. Soooo, I went back today and they replaced it with new one. So for so good. Smart Switch worked perfectly, and now I'm having fun exploring all the neat new stuff on the device.

I must say it is a beautiful looking device. I got the blue, and I love it.

Are you using wireless to charge it? That is very slow. I noticed that on wireless my phone was discharging faster than it could charge, but it does fast charge when I plug it directly into power with the cable.

I have some apps for work on my old phone, which required my phone to be encrypted. I called yesterday to have them remotely wipe their junk off my phone. They said to call back today when I have both phones so they can put their junk on my new phone too.

I didnt get home from work till close to 6. While our helpdesk people are there 24/7, of course the IT people who handle this stupid personal device program will not be in till Monday.

So, I cant activate my Note7 till then because at that point my old phone will be deactivated and then Im not sure work would be able to remote in and wipe their junk and un-encrypt my phone before I send it back to Verizon.

So, Im annoyed.

So far I love the N7. I have had it since 2:30 this afternoon. Haven't been able to use it the whole time because I had plans with my GF tonight. I have been using Helium to migrate apps over - it is working for the most part. I am migrating them to dropbox from my N4 then from dropbox to my N7. A few of them won't migrate properly, but so far most have with all the data migrated properly. Overall I can say I love the phone and there is very little I can even think of to complain about.
