The Official "I got my Note 7!" First Impressions Thread

I have to wait till end of november to upgrade in the UK so I am waiting as it's a bit high in price per month (£57 per month with £20 up front) I was like what..... and it's the same as what plan I am on right now which is still high at £43.50 per month
I'm in the same boat, the Note 7 looks and sounds like an amazing phone but I still have 9 months contract on my Note 4, unless there is a super deal I will hold out until next May I think

Then run it for a day fully un-configured to see how it is performing stock. Or at least run it in Safe Mode and Airplane Mode
If it won't charge correctly in a bone stock environment with all the radios turned off then you have identified a significant issue. If you can't/won't do this, to narrow the variables down, then it could be any number of problems.

If I do that, it would naturally charge a little faster, because with no apps and all the radios off the battery isn't being taxed at all... so I wouldn't consider that a real-world test. If fast charge is rated to charge a fully loaded and functional device within an hour, then it should be able to do that. I'll leave it off the charger all day, run it down, and try it this evening. If it fails to fast charge, I'll reset it and give it back to Sam's Club in the morning.

My dilemma was that I am on Verizon's unlimited plan and I couldn't buy with a 2 year contract anymore unless I wanted to cancel my unlimited plan. Fortunately, I could still finance a new phone and keep unlimited, which is what I did. If not for the promotions being offered by Samsung, I'd probably go with a different brand as Samsung has been growing a little long in the tooth for me. I was almost considering going back to an HTC device or an LG, but their flagship devices just aren't as slick. I even contemplated going back to the darkside (iPhone). If you aren't going to cash in on the Samsung promotions, I would just wait for the next flagship device to come out.

I could wipe my Note 4 but I don't think it'll be as quick as the Note 7. There are a few things that the Note 4 does pretty close to the Note 7, battery life on the Note 7 isn't that impressive (and hot swapping the battery gives the Note 4 a bit of an edge). Charging the battery almost also feels the same between the 2 devices, even the quick charging part. Then there's the USB connections, the Note 7 is already proving not to be compatible with a lot of my micro USB devices, even with the included adapter. The water resistant feature and the edge features aren't that big a deal to me, but then again I'm not actively seeking to get my $800 electronics wet nor do I find the edge features that useful. If not for the speed of the Note 7, I'd probably agree with your assessment.

Going on day 3... While I love the phone, TBH the curved screen bothers the hell out of me. Many apps have the settings button far off to one side and with the curve it makes it difficult to hit the button. Full screen videos get distorted on top and bottom (I'm a digital artist in both vid and photography, so that is a HUGE negative for me. I actually returned the first case I had for it, as it was too high and if you text with your right hand and reach your thumb over you couldn't hit P on the keyboard. I was also hoping for better battery life, that definitely didn't happen for me.
The curved glass is aesthetically beautiful but from a functionality standpoint fails in my opinion. Other than that critique, I do love the phone overall.
One quick question for everyone. I can not stand Samsung's stock messaging app. I've been using Textra, which I love but do wish I could find an app the allows for both private notifications and to click back through media sent by specific contacts. Any ideas? Thanks

Did anyone get their phone from ATT and if so, did it come in the ridiculous ATT box? I know it's just a box but I like the original boxes since first of all, they stack nicer with the others I have and the ATT box makes it look not it's not a $900 phone. Anyway, my question is that it DOES include all the accessories, right? Like the microUSB adapter and the USB adapter, headphones.. My ATT GS7edge came in the original box as well as my last few GS phones - not sure why they went back to this.

I agree totally with you...I will NEVER buy a carrier issued phone again. Waiting for Samsung to release the Note 7 unlocked or I'll buy a european edition.

I'm still very concerned about my Note 7 not fast charging. Tomorrow (well, later today), I'm going to put it to one last test.

According to Samsung, I should be able to charge from 0-100% in about an hour. I've not experienced anything close to that.

So if my phone fails to fast charge and Sam's Club can't or won't replace it, I'll turn this one back in and go to Verizon and start all over again - which is a pain, because I'll probably have to give them back my $150 gift card :(

Sorry you and others are having charging issues...This is exactly why I stopped being an early adopter of anything....Cars, electronics, restaurants...LOL

The 256 GB micro SD card is what pulled me in. I've been looking at all the promotions offered by cell manufacturers, and it seems as though they don't offer the same promotions unless they have a newer version of their current phone that's around the corner.

I wanted a Note 7 anyway, and I was already committed to purchasing from Verizon because I saved my upgrade since February so I could apply it to this purchase. However, the 256 GB microSD was certainly eye-catching, and would have been a game changer anyway. That Verizon upgrade reduced my cost to $400. Subtracting the value of that microSD card ($250) that I would have needed anyway down the road, plus the $70 trade in I will receive from my ailing S5, and my total cost came to approximately $80 for a top of the line, latest tech smartphone.

When you start adding up the deals, and if you play it right, the cost savings make me buy through Verizon every time.

I did 24 months of financing. I figure if I can't swing $30-ish a month then there's something severely wrong with my budget. I hate seeing the 256GB SD card's price on E-bay drop down to around $80, but the Gear Fit 2 just isn't for me, especially considering that I have an LG Smartwatch already. I might've even bit for the Gear VR (Have one for my Note 4 and while it's mostly gimmicky, it's a cool toy) if they had offered it despite the fact that it would overheat my Note 4 constantly. I would've loved to use my upgrade that I've had available to me for about at least 2 years, but that would mean losing my unlimited data plan with Verizon and considering I use over 100 GB typically per month (use my hotspot at home) I would rather not spend $400 a month for their highest current data plan.

Is it just me or does anyone else wonder if the battery will last considering how fast it depletes and how fast it charges? I was actually hoping that the battery would last longer than the 4-6 hours being reported of continuous screen use. I don't see the battery having much life with continuous draining and recharging.

Everything I have read convinces me that the Note 4 is Best of Crop.
I am staying with my Note 4.

It does not get slower with age, the user is the problem, not the device.

I have a Note 4 Dev edition. The Note 7 is heads and tails above and better than the Note 4 in every way except for the external speaker and having the audio jack on the bottom instead of on the top like the N4 has. Also one other advantage is that the N4 had a removable battery. That's it for advantages of the N4 over the N7 though, and the upgrades in every other area with the N7 are well worth it IMHO.

Don't you mean heads and shoulders? Heads and tails is a coin toss... :p

I'm actually...not impressed.

As least not as impressed as I thought I'd be.

This is long, I type a bunch, I have feels and emotions and opinions. Please just skip if you're going to whine about it.

I've had a Note 5 since it released and my guy got a 7 Edge within a week of when it released so I was able to see the sort of performance I could expect from the Note 7 as they're practically the same.

It arrived with a screen protector tip in it and it'd been so long since I swapped a tip that I didn't even think to check it as I became increasingly frustrated while using the phone the first night. I still feel like the screen isn't registering my taps and it's losing track of my swypes, both finger and pen, even with the swap. I've had it happen several times while writing this already.

I very much dislike that I have to pull down twice to adjust brightness. I don't use auto - adjust.

The battery seems worse than my Note 5. From the battery info screen there's some issues already. It was at 100% at noon yesterday and by the time I opened the package at home at 9 PM (delivered at 6 PM) it was around 70%. I recharged to 100%, unplugged, then it sat until 11:30 when I could setup. Battery manager did not register that recharge. 93% at 1 AM, 87% at 7 AM. Had that screen clock thing on.

Left it at home as it is case-less and took my Note 5 on the drive to school to drop off my daughter and began downloading apps and customizing at 9 AM. Downloaded 37 apps, opened Zedge and downloaded 4 songs, took 7 pictures and one 2 minute video, made a GIF. Read on Chrome for 30 mins. That has been the whole morning.

It's 12:47 PM and I'm at 7%.

In comparison, my guy's 7 Edge, day 1, went 22 hours of use (USE, BEING USED) before dying. He's a battery killer, too. Likes to push phones. 2 hr and 30 min of Google Maps is like 3%. ...my Note 7 drained more than that while I slept!

Yeah, the battery is smaller but it isn't THAT much smaller!

Bloatware again (Love the stuff you can't use AND can't remove! Thanks, Samsung Pay!), the speaker and the headphone jack is trash just like the 7 Edge's. Wish they would have sold a non-water proofed version... It's a problem when your vehicle doesn't have Bluetooth. Can't believe how caked and dirty and streaked the screen is already. I had to run with my Note 5 naked for 4 days waiting on a case and screen protector and while the back was certainly a fingerprint magnet I don't recall the front being this bad.

It has tempered glass on it and only recently had started really accumulating gunk. Which is funny cause I'm sitting here thinking that must just be what happens to old glass protectors, need to give her a deep clean (as in not my shirt)... and my new Note 7 turns into that year old protector in 3 hours or less.

3% 1:15 PM

It also froze while I was installing apps. Woo. Recovered within 60 seconds, then remained laggy and jumpy for several minutes before returning to normal. The phone got hot, too. So I guess it's good I don't mass update/install at any point other than set up (I manual that, too.) because my Note 7 can't handle that. Start-up is twice as long as my Note 5 and remains sluggish for several minutes after booting.

Sure, I'm being picky. I wasn't all that excited in the first place for it but my guy's 7 Edge was swaying me into positivity. Great battery life, multi-tasked seamlessly (and still does now), amazing camera and response times, never missed a tap (neither did my Note 5, tho), and as long as you used Bluetooth the sound quality was irrelevant.

Nope.

2% 1:17 PM.

Better finish on the PC...

Turned off at 1:18 PM.

Edge 7? 60 minutes from 4% to dead. Not on battery saver. He was actually TRYING to kill the battery and it wouldn't die. Played Need for Speed or whatever that fancy car game is called and the Edge is like, 'is that all you got? I COULD POWER THE WORLD!11'

...anyway... The GOOD!

I ordered the robin's egg blue and it is absolutely beautiful. I love it! My favorite part is the rose gold bit around the edges, especially on the end of the S-pen. Oh, and I LOVE that the S-pen is also blue! Best looking phone I've ever owned, hands down.

I really like the new camera software. It's so much easier to use/navigate. Though I thought it was strange that the on-screen tutorial told me I could use gestures to make a GIF, however, those aren't working and the GIF button only appeared the first time when it told me to make a GIF. So, I need to spend more time with that and seek out some macro/micro modes, but so far in my limited exposure the camera is absolutely a step up and that's a happy thing.

The screen appears to be vibrant and crisp, however until I sit and overanalyze 4k videos I can't see an immediate difference.

Oh, I really like the new stock clock app, too.

Okay, so, I started writing that Friday and then trailed off to other activities. Late yesterday afternoon I noticed a mark on the Note 7. I wiped it off with a screen cleaning cloth then inspected the screen for other marks to polish off. ...there are four scratches and 3 pock marks on my Note 7. From sitting around and doing nothing. It hasn't been put on its face, it hasn't been put in a pocket or purse, it hasn't been anything but touched and every-so-gently used.

The scratches are along the edge. Right where the edge screen is pulled out from. Yesterday I did some tests to try and get a feel for where to pull the edge tray from and was using my s-pen and finger. My s-pen scratched the screen of my Note 7, which comes with and is meant to be used by the s-pen... The pock marks are all on the bezel (top and bottom) and make no ****ing sense whatsoever. Like, the size of the tip of the s-pen, indented to a permanent mark, but I never used the s-pen on the top bezel so...idfk.

Wrote that then decided to take some pics and found MORE scratches

Got Note7 on 8/19.

One word: ecstatic.

It's all relative. Coming from a note 2, 4+years old that literally died in my hands (spontaneously cycling through reboots, droping calls, very slow recharge, very fast discharge, finally bricked itself with only the boot menu available at the hard reset) the Note7 is great.
Great screen (I like edge and wide viewing angle it gives)
Great S-pen (long time Palm Vx user with nostalgia) still figuring out all the uses
Great size, big enough for viewing movies, small enough to hold in one hand and thump type (nothing beats a BB physical keyboard though)
Battery life good, fast charging working well, not doing wireless charging (I wouldn't really expect it to work with a case anyway), and much better than my dead note 2
Loaded various apps, great to have the most recent versions available and upgradable
Wi-Fi calling as sketchy as the old 2 and significant other's galaxy 6, but cell reception much stronger than old 2
Lots of bloatware, new (to me) screen based app manager allows to permanently disable any app (or so it seems), also able to control permissions on an app and function specific basis
Still trying to decide on the following:
- What contact management software to use (I have company managed Mass360 for email, calendar, contacts but need to migrate 2800+ contacts to a personal platform)
- security and remote access (comes w/T-Mobile Lookout subscription AND Samsung Knox AND Samsung "Find my phone" remote access etc.)

Any suggestions on the two above issues? I'll check / post on other topic appropriate forums.

I'm personally a little fond of Team Viewer for Samsung as for remoteing into the device from a desktop. I use it constantly when helping my parents with their cell phone questions/issues. Are you looking for something that allows you to administrate several devices? Here's PC Magazine's rankings http://www.pcmag.com/article/342695/the-best-mobile-device-management-mdm-software-of-2016 I also use an app at my current place of employment, but for the life of me I cannot remember the name. We use it on our tablets that are deployed to track our trucks. It lets you lock down apps, remote wipe, and track things via GPS. It also has its own skin that allows the user to only use the apps that you've authorized for use, so no loading Youtube nor Pokemon Go when you should be working. :D

I'm really confused about your complaints of scratches and pock marks. It appears to me that you haven't taken the cheap plastic packaging film off of your phone and complaining that it's not providing protection from the S-Pen. That is not screen protector quality and there's obviously lint beneath the film that you indicate are 'pock' marks outlined in the photos. I believe your expectations with this aspect of the phone are not justifiable.
