Ok so we finally get the release date, $$$, and additional info on the Evo and all I see is complaining!!
For goodness sakes... Complain cause it costs to much 'off contract' - we knew this phone was NOT going to be cheap! People are acting as if its a surprise...REALLY????
Complain cause they are going to charge $10.00 for the 4g coverage...I am in the sticks of WI and do not have 4g but have no problem paying (although on a limited income) for it cause I WANT THE PHONE! If you do not have 4g now (but maybe later, or at all) and if you dont have the $10.00 then DON'T get the freaking phone!!!! Problem solved! Were you expecting this to be free???? Come on people they have a business to run and a service to provide, everyone is trying to make a buck.
Give it some time and dont get the EVO til later this summer when the price has dropped, and the new Iphone is being released.
If you can't handle it then take your marbles and go home with your whining!!!

Ok I feel better now. :D

you are not paying for 4g, that service is included in your monthly plan. The 10$ is for the phone itself. Call it a "Sprint's first baddass phone and we are gonna make you pay a luxury tax to have it tax"

Ahhh ok I see!!! Thank you for correcting my thought!! So regardless of the plan that you have 4g is included and still will be paying the $10.00 'tax'? Do I follow correctly?
Either way I am still getting the phone. ;)

I already have a plan that includes everything....sooooo ummmm???/?

They are going to charge you an extra $10 a month to get unlimited data at 4G speeds (where available). It won't matter if where you live isn't getting a 4G upgrade anytime this century, you're still going to pay for it, even if you never use it.

Think of it as a endless glass of beer, with 3G (what you currently have) they give you a soda straw to drink the "unlimited" drink, for an mandatory extra $10/month charge, they upgrade your soda straw to a fire hose. But unfortunately the fire hose is really short and the hydrants aren't everywhere quite yet.

The reason why they are charging 4G for everyone is because you are still have the capability to access the 4G network. If you travel to a 4G area or Sprint rolls out 4G to your area then you will be connecting to 4G.

There are a few ways sprint could have made it so that you could avoid the $10 charge
1) Sell an Evo 3G that doesn't have the 4G antenna. Product development and marketing probably isn't cost effective
2) Have a software setting that disables the 4G antenna and can only be turned on by a Sprint store rep. This would probably be hacked in a day
3) Charge you the regular 3G rate but tack on a charge for every KB you download from 4G. Might not be possible depending on how they have their server set up. I know they can do a per KB charge, but I don't know if they can accurately track for billing purposes what is coming from a 4G antenna and what is coming from a 3G antenna.

Point being - i don't think they're doing it just to be jerks. $10 extra seems like a bargain to me since I live in a 4G area. I probably wouldn't pay more than that. If you don't live in a 4G area, just wait for a better phone to come along or get the Incredible.

1) Sell an Evo 3G that doesn't have the 4G antenna.
Front facing camera, no wifi hotspot, and video/voice conferencing, and ditch flash and there you go.

The 10 bucks is not for 4g, it is to remove the data cap off the 3g connection.

You know how much data a streamed movie has? Or maybe a video conferencing?

They are charging you because the vast majority of the people are going to suck up vast amounts of data with this phone.

I beleive the second issues is they are going to release froyo and leave the tethering untouched.

My take from the presser Sprint released was because this phone is so badass with all its specs, Sprint is "assuming" we are going to use more data and have more abilities with this phone which makes it a premium phone with premium abilities and they feel a 10$ charge for that is nessesary.

How can anyone say this phone costs too much? Up against an iPhone 3GS? Droid Incredible? Nexus One? $450 is an amazing deal for what you get here. I don't know why people are expecting Sprint to just hand this phone over to them.

Since when is 450$ just handing over something for free? I guess 450$ JUST AINT WHAT IT USED TO BE!

For real, this is just terrible. If you are so bad off you can't afford 10 dollars a month extra, you need to spend less time on the internet and use that time at a part time job.

Or DONT GET THE PHONE!
They way sprint see's it is....if our customer wants the phone they will pay the $10.00!
No matter what the motive behind it is....any company that provides telephone service has got us...its like when they first came out with Caller ID and charged for it!
