Can a HTC Hero run 2.0?

I purchased a Hero about 2 weeks ago but I am now rethinking the purchase with the 2.0 phones being released. Can the Hero run the 2.0 OS? Will it be made available from Sprint/HTC or will they want you to upgrade to a 2.0 phone?? Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'm no expert and have no inside contacts with either HTC or Sprint, but we KNOW it can run 1.6. There have been demo units out for reviewers with the upgraded platform and they work well. In fact, all accounts are that the HERO runs faster and more efficiently with 1.6 than 1.5.

So, the question would be: What dramatic changes are there between 1.6 and 2.0 that would cause it to not work on HERO?

Since 1.6 just dropped and they expect 2.0 to follow that almost immediately, I have a hard time thinking that 2.0 will change in such a fundamental way as to make it non-operational on any handset prior to the Droid generation.

It would make almost no sense to create firmware that bypasses ALL of the handsets currently on the market.

I won't worry about the HERO not running it.

The only thing I've been frustrated with is Sprints reluctance to spell out it's update plans. There are LOTS of new Sprint customers that bought this phone and they need to consider who best to keep us happy new customers. One thing that would help is to keep us updated on their upgrade roll-out schedule.

That's my two cents. :)

If I have to reset my phone to factory settings again to upgrade, which those using straight Google Android don't have to (it updates over the air without needing a reset), then I'll wait until a stock Android phone comes out that I want, rather than those phones with modified Android that make updates hard.

I too am starting to think I made a mistake by Jumping to Sprint so fast. I am now locked into a 2 year contract with no option of upgrading for 2 years. I enjoy my HTC Hero and can't wait til 1.6 update is released since I hear it will run faster than the current one. 2.0 sounds great and I hope I can update my Hero to it.

You actually have 30 days to decide if you are happy with Sprint or not (if my memory serves me good) since you are a NEW customer. I'm locked into a contract on the other hand since I signed the contract with them last year. I do get 30 days to decide if I like the Hero though or I can swap phones or go back to my old phone and get my upgrade eligibility stats back.

Funny thing about this Pdragon.

I have informed some of the people I work with about being, or becoming Premier members. After one of them checked into it, he didnt qualify and was told it would take him 6 months after switching to a plan inside the price range. Even though I had given him the link back to Sprints own website that clearly stated after 3.

*facepalm*

Sometimes I wonder about these Sprint reps. I really do.

My Fiance is an Asst Manager at a Sprint store and once I signed up she told me that I am not eligible for 2 years however she said to wait a little bit and it may change to 1 year. I asked what makes it change and she said, it so random and odd we actually have no idea how it fully works. We just log into the computer and check if they are eligible. She said we will have someone who is not one week then the next week they are then the week after that they are not again.

I know I have 30 days but I really do like this phone. It has its quirks but it has about the same amount has my work phone which is a BB Curve. I hope to see a 2.0 upgrade, or at minimum a 1.6 upgrade available soon. If my fiance is right and I am eligible in a year, then I should be good.

Ask to speak with a supervisor or call back until you get someone with a clue. No different than dealing with any other phone based customer service department.
