Tablet battery drain

Guest
I got a budget Dragon Touch M8 tablet to use as a GPS/Bluetooth OBD and it does it perfectly except for the battery. I leave it in my car overnight. After night 1 of standby, the battery is fine. It is fine all day too and charging when the car is on. Then after night 2, the tablet is completely dead and won't turn on until an hour of charging where I have to bring it in my house to charge. Does anyone know what is eating all the power when the device is on standby? I close all applications but that doesn't work either.

Car Chargers are infamous for not providing an adequate charge. Most of them barely give 500-750 mA of current and that is not enough to properly charge today's bigger batteries. Those chargers were barely good for the old Flip Phones, not to mention today's smart phones 3 to 10 times bigger batteries.

I suggest that your car charger is inadequate for the job at hand.

I went to an O'Reilly's auto supply store and they have some very good ones that are spec'd out at 3A and 5A

yes, they cost more than $0.99 cents, but you get what you pay for, and for me, being on the road a LOT with my motorcycle, I had the same problem as you with my Samsung Note 4, it would NOT charge up while I was riding, it just barely stayed at, or even slightly less than what it had.

Then I spent the $16.99 or $19.99 and bought a very good, high spec charger, that has LEDs on it indicating the state of charge rate. Now, the Note 4 will recharge in about 2 hours flat, or even quicker if I turn it off.

My ultimate solution was to get an Anker brand 26800 power pack, that puppy will charge anything in about 1 hour flat. and it is good for many recharges depending on what is being recharged. The Note 4 can be recharged about 5 or 6 times.

also, I just remembered you said "left in the car overnight to recharge".

none of the car chargers work worth a damn once the engine is switched off.
There just is not enough "head room" or voltage difference to let the charger work.
at best, it just might almost keep the device at the same level, or, as in your case, will eventually run the battery down...

I don't leave it charging overnight. I just leave it in the car on standby. But regardless of the car if I just leave it on a table with a full charge, it'll die overnight so it's not the charger.

I stopped all Google services on the tablet and it does not drain nearly as fast. It only loses 15% each day now. Looking at the power usage before, I could see it was dropping rapidly at certain times and I figured google was doing something in the background at random times so I forced google to stop and there's no problem now. Thank you everyone
