New to android: Nexus One or Droid?

New to the forum, never had a smartphone but looking into it now. Leaning heavily toward Android.

Which is superior, the Motorola Droid, or the Nexus One -- or am I missing another model altogether?

nexus one is totally superior to the droidd. but both are good phones, but nexus one all the way.

I would consider the Incredible more in line with the Nexus one rather then the Motorola Droid. Depending on what forum you ask your question you are definitely going to get different answers. Do you have a liking to a particular provider (ATT, verizon, tmobile, etc....)? Do you need to try something out prior to buying it? Are cosmetics important to you?

I wouldn't trade my Nexus One for any other phone on the market right now but do your research to decide which is better for you. If you have questions regarding the N1 then this is the place to ask, if you have questions on the droid, Incredible, etc....then ask in those particular sub forums. Either way Android is where it's at and you won't be dissapointed. Welcome to the greener side of things.

Thanks for all the replies. The fact that Nexus One forces you to get more than a minimum rate plan with Tmobile is a sticking point for me. I'll look more closely at the Incredible.

I guess there are other phones on the horizon worth looking at also.

not sure what you mean by minimum rate plan, but if you buy the N1 for the full price, you can get T-Mo's "Even More Plus" no contract plan, which starts at $60. at that rate you will end up paying less in total than the subsidized contract plan over a 2 year period.

i am girish, as i am new to android , today i tried install the android emmulator and SDK with the help of How to Install the Android SDK on Windows XP but i get stucked in error which is like this

emulator: Error: you did not specify a virtual device name, and the system directory could nto found.

if you are an Android SDK user , please use '@<name>' or '-avid<name>'....abd so on

Please any body can guide me r help me in this ...

I would go with the N1 but if you are a hardcore gamer and want the best emulator experience on your phone I would google "Droid Game Gripper" to see the best option on emulator gaming available.

The N1 can play emulator games using a wiimote but its not the same as having an NES style controller flushed and attached directly under the screen.

The Game Gripper would be the ONLY reason I personally would choose the droid over the N1. Otherwise the N1 has these advantages over the Droid:
- Updates quicker
- Better looks
- More money saved if buying unlocked with an even more plus plan
- Faster processor
- More ram
- Trackball alerts (soon to be colored once Froyo comes on the 19th)

The only cons for some people of the N1 might be the lack of a physical keyboard to have the best experience on gaming (although you can use a wiimote for physical buttons) + the whole Verizon vs T-Mobile coverage. I went with T-Mobile since I live in SoCal and get great reception and only pay $40 a month so I saved myself $720 over the 2 years that I have the phone compared to the Droid on Verizon...

I just need minimum voice time, not much for texting. So I could get away with a barebones voice/data package. At verizon this is $10 less/month.

However, although I'm new to viewing the costs in total over the life of the contract, I see the wisdom. Which subsidized contract plan are you referring to?

from the google.com/phone site, you can get an N1 for $179, but you have to sign a 2y contract with t-mo and get the $80 even more contract.
