First few tasks and what to lookout for with new Nexus One?

I will be getting my Nexis one soon.

What adivce would you give in terms of when first first turning the phone on? Whats should i lookout for? What tasks should i perform first?

Welcome uzee :D Glad you're on the Nexus bandwagon!!!

1) Insert your sim card ;)
2)Register your google account
3)You'd need to input your carrier's APN info (look @ your old phone for this or call your carrier up)
4)There's a tutorial that gives you a tour of the N1
5)Go into setting --> wirless and input your WIFI information if your internet is restrictive.

And you're pretty much set to go!!! :D

Some apps that I think are essential and have on my Nexus:
roze's Management Apps

Look out - The first app I installed from the market, it has an anti-virus scan, data backup and anti theft options
Gmail/SMS Unread count - great widgets that show you how many unread emails/sms that you have :)
Smooth Calander - I find this better than the stock calander widget
Astrid - one of the best Tast manager on the market
Astro - essential file manager that allows you to access your SD card and backup your apps onto your SD
Mini Info - shows you % of battery life, RAM and SD memory available
Quick Info - a good all in one, management and TK app :)

If this is your first Android phone, I'd recomend you read this: roze's Management Apps

Don't turn it on, charge it till the light is green.

Why would you say that? The battery is partially charged already.

Replace Google Maps, Goggles and Voice with the equivalent apps from the market.
You won't get update notifications from the market if you stick with the stock apps.
You may also want to install an app like wavesecure or mobile defense, which lets you track, remote wipe and remote lock your phone online in case you misplace it.

Just because google said to in the little quick start sheet they provided with the phone.

Really? I think my google maps updated itself.

Good note on the tracking app. I'll have to look into them. Are they battery drainers?

Now really? I was too excited with my N1...read something then just dived in XD I remembered when I put the battery in, the phone automatically started, reasonw why I learnt that it was partially charged...thought I had a refurb >_>; but confirmed on AF that it wasn't.

i never got any of the updates till i installed from the market and when i went to the market and looked at the installed list, none of the stock apps showed up.

I have both installed and I don't notice any battery drain using the tracking apps, but it's hard to tell since they don't even show up in the battery usage list. the peace of mind is worth a bit of battery hit i think.
