2.1 Voice-to-Text Entry.... really?

So I just got the official OTA update to 2.1 and I've had a lot of fun playing with it, but one thing I was really looking forward to was the "New support for Voice-to-Text entry" that Verizon claimed on it's official Droid Eris Update Features List: http://support.vzw.com/pdf/system_update/eris.pdf

At this point I feel like an idiot not being able to find it. I know that it's usually just a microphone on the keyboard, but there is definitely no mic icon for me. Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone been able to use voice-to-text on their newly updated Droid Eris?

I would honestly love to find out that I'm just being stupid and the answer is right in front of me... but the more I look, the more discouraged I get.

So far, it looks like the OTA is the same as the leaked v3 2.1. As this is the case, it appears that Verizon screwed up on the PDF listing the various features as this is not one of them included with the OTA release.

The voice-to-text ability is built into the code for 2.1v2 and 2.1v3 (assuming 2.1OTA as well). The keyboard wasn't changed so you can't get to it. BUT if you use a keyboard (vlingo and Better Keyboard for examples) you can do it.

Not sure about the pinch-to-zoom on the maps, it doesn't work for v2 or v3. Personally, I prefer double-tap/long-tap for zoom-in/out. Makes using one hand a bit easier.

So I keep hearing about Vlingo but cannot find it on the market. I have 2.1v3 anyone know why this might be?

I was wondering why I could use the voice-to-text, yet I keep seeing people say they can't. I began to question my own self over this. But I'm using Better Keyboard, and tried it some time ago. I mean, it worked, but it wasn't 'great'. Not something I'd stick to cuz it wasn't all that accurate.

Tried Vlingo. The voice accuracy and capabilities are much better than the standard search. But the dictionary attached when I used the keyboard was horrendous and the defaulting search went to yahoo. So I uninstalled it. Later learned that if I said "google ..." it would search google instead. So I put it back on; paired it to the long-press search, no widget, and no keyboard. Running Better Keyboard for that part of it. Vlingo did better at the voice part for the keyboard input, but with the dictionary, became unusable to me.

I use this keyboard from xda, has voice to text. It looks almost identical to the stock keyboard, but has a lot more features. You can find it at [MOD] HTC_IME (29th April) v25: Custom sounds and much more - xda-developers

works like a champ, but dont like the fact that after installing it says "blah blah blah this may be able to send any text imputed meaning passwords and credit card numbers could be sent"

speech to text is pretty much spot on and even does words like "wanna" "whatchya doin" lol

edit* eff this keyboard actually lol everytime i type "i'm" i get a force close lololol

2nd edit* now on stock keyboard it stays on capital letters. i know that you can switch it with the key on the left, but before i installed this other keyboard it would just capitalize the letters that needed to be. now, not so much

I installed Vlingo and really like the voice-to-text, but whoever programmed the auto-correct on this application should never program another application as long as they live. I've never seen such poor logic. When I type "I am" it changes it to "I Amy". It also changes the word "is" to "Us". It thinks that I mistyped those words, which are real words in the dictionary used by people every day.

My recommendation is that if you want Vlingo, be prepared to turn off the auto-correct.
