Help Gmail App - should display # of unread messages?

I have the Gmail and HTC mail apps running. when I get a new gmail, I get a notification that I have unread email (I'm not sure which app that comes from).

the HTC app has a little # that tells me how many unread messages I have. my Gmail app does not do that. should it?

It doesn't, but you can download the app 'SMS Unread Count' from the market.

Then, add the widget to your homescreen. Make sure to change the type from 'sms' to 'gmail'

Then, voila, you have the number.

There is a widget called "Gmail Unread Count" that will do this. The icon is just like gmail's but you can customize the color and also has an option for a "3d" icon.

I use the "Gmail Unread Count " and love it. +1

It's great because you can use ANY email application you want, but still use that Widget.

This might be a stupid question, but I have SMS unread count set up to show me a count of unread texts and the Gmail unread count doing the same thing for gmail. Do I need both of these, or will one app take care of both?

Wierd tho, as this is my first time logging into AppBrain via the DI, everytime I enter my Gmail username/pw, and click 'Sign In', nothing happens. The internet bar just sits there not accessing anything.. Grrrr... help!

is there a voicemail unread count app, I dont like that the stock voicemail app doesnt display a 1,2,3 if there are new voicemails.

Seems like that's the only way. It's kinda annoying, but at least you probably won't have to touch it again after you've tweaked everything to your liking.

can i use sms unread count with handcent? i don't like the handcent widget.

Since these are all three different applications, requiring 3 different shortcuts, you have to add three copies of the SMS Unread Widget and configure them differently.
