Have you been waiting patiently for 2.1 to come out OTA, fighting the urge to leak? (Uh... let me rephrase that...)

Were you hoping that the "official" version would be more streamlined and less buggy than the leaks?

Did you finally get the OTA, only to discover that certain things just DON'T WORK?

Annoyed that the stuff Verizon said were included AREN'T THERE AT ALL?

1. Weather app force closes every time.
2. Still camera no longer works on vertical mode.
3. YouTube app works, but the screen is tiny. (just use YouTube Mobile... it works better.)
4. No pinch-to-Zoom in Google Maps (so what, but VZW said it was there)
5. No speech-to-text? At least, I cannot find anything other than search that uses it.
6. Facebook For Android is MANDATORY, YOU CANNOT UNINSTALL THIS CRAP APP.
7. Virtual keyboard text window doesn't really close all the time... don't know how to explain that but try posting comments here from your phone's web browser and see if it happens to you.

Maybe not everyone has the same problems or opinions about annoyances. Post them all here anyway. Just don't start a fight with other members.

I have 50% without signal. Will see in a few days if it has any effect on battery life, but there is a thread now saying it doesnt. So that doesnt bother me.
I was looking forward to the voice to text feature though, and it is not there.
All in all, there is nothing wrong with my phone that is going to bother me or anything. So I am happy with the improvements that I did receive.
And I do think there will be a patch sometime down the line to fix the signal bug, and maybe even give us at least a few of those promised features that we did not get.

I had taken a leak all of them, but still hoped for the official OTA just because. I think I knew a couple of days ago that I wouldn't be receiving it anyway. I'm pleased with the 2.1v3 for now; however.

I'm completely impressed with the OTA upgrade. I can do without a lot of the fancy crap. I just wanted Google Nav.

1 - Not sure what the problem is on that one.
2 - Camera works like a normal camera now. If you want to take a vertical or horizontal picture you turn the camera the way you want. Makes more sense to me.
3 - It may be the videos you are watching. I get plenty of them full screen and plenty of the smaller. It works though, so that is an improvement.
4 - Vzw screwed up on that and it was foolish on their part.
5 - I use Vlingo for email, voice dial and search. It works much better than Google's voice stuff.
6 - It is what it is, just like some the other apps that come factory. Like or hate it, it is popular and here to stay.
7 - I have noticed (LV3) that if I don't let a page load fully in the browser I will get some odd problems. If I let the page load, I have none.

I'm on 2.1 OTA. I seem to remeber SWYPE having haptic feedback in 1.5 when I typed (not swyped), but it's gone now. Any suggestions.

I always turned haptic off so not sure. For browser issues just use dolphin....so much better

For voice to text, I just downloaded the stock keyboard replacement with the microphone button from XDA.
I did get vlingo, and I will keep it. It is a nifty app, but I didnt care to keep going and clicking on an app to text people. XDAs keyboard is exactly what I was looking for.

When you hit "All Programs" on the lower left hand side, no matter if you change it to LIST, it ALWAYS reverts back to the grid view. ALWAYS. very annoying.

Im thinking I must have had it set as list on 1.5 and it just maintained that after the update.
Maybe for me I wont be able to get it to stay on grid.

also, idk if this is a problem, but i dont see %'s anymore when i look at phone info. there's no % awake time or anything. it's just the number of minutes, etc. does anyone else see %'s?

There have been big differences in software quality, perhaps even hardware quality, reported from day one of the Eris forums; some with this or that sound issue, dialing issue, GPS issue, battery life issue, ad infinitum, while others, such as myself, with no such issues.

That was on 1.5. Thus this forum proliferation and success.

Now 2.1 (and previous leaks) displays the same issues/non-issues across the board.

The lesson here? Me and OTD's Theory: good 1.5 = good 2.1, bad 1.5 = bad 2.1, generally.

The backdrop to that theory? Quality control at the factory and/or lack thereof.

after taking the eris from v 1.5 to 2.1 i'm having trouble getting all of my contacts to properly sync .. some have but i'm still missing a lot of them .. most importantly, none of my "favorites" imported over from Gmail to the phone ... here's the original post

That theory seems pretty right. I was happy with my phone on 1.5 as well. But the OTA did bring the signal bug for everyone, so that seems to be the exception here. Even good phones will get that.

caddyman i am a noob and i dont understand where to get swype. I searched market place and did not see it there. Any help would be appreciated

For those using Swype, there is a speech-to-text option. Just hit menu and choose "Speak". Works like a charm.

BTW, Swype is not in the Marketplace. Do a search in the forums for a link.
