Installing the OTA 2.1 file

Man oh man, what are you doing with root if you don't know how to even access root privileges? Sorry.. but..

Anyway, open a terminal and type su, it should request your password. I doubt if you have a password, though, if you don't know what su is? (super user .. the administrator, the root user, etc).

I knew that su was super user, and the reason I got root in the first place was because I found an all-in-one package to get root and the latest rom, not because I was interested in the privileges, except maybe custom roms.

"Seeing" you made me wonder if you had received your OTA notification. If so, did you accept it? Just think it would be the end of an era. *sigh*

The notification has not dared to come to my faithful, loving 1.5 Eris, as yet.

It is likely at the castle gates, mounting scaffold in preparation for the invasion.

My flaming tar buckets are at the ready.

Didn't request a password, but I got a # sign.

I figured it better think twice, I imagine the moat, and archers, and that dragon will keep you pretty well fortified as well. Keep us posted. After realizing I have no Offical OTA update to look forward to, this will have to do. :D

okay... then u updated and never lost root... that's quite odd... weird. I would like to know exactly what you did... because this make come as help to us over at xda

Exactly what I did:

Bought phone w/ 1.5 stock on it. (Duh)
Did everything here, w/ automated script: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/53963-guide-stock-1-5-latest-root-2-1-a.html

Today I tried to download the o/p's link.
Installed, said "update successful, reboot?" at which point I believe it was supposed to switch over to the black screen where it would say delete files delete files delete files like in the o/p's picture, but instead just rebooted.

I noticed that all of my numbers (kernel, build, etc) were different than the o/ps, was advised to install again, or take of the pb00img of my sd card , which was still on there from when I did the all-in-one script and reinstall ota

Took it off and copied to my desktop.

Tried installing the ota again, same process as before, no "delete files" screen.

And here I am. Confused as hell.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE tell me how to move the update.zip file to the top of the list on my SD card??? Im a nnob...and getting frustrated :-( Please help

Plug your phone into the computer and click the "mount as disk drive" option.
Then drag the update.zip file into the root of your sd card, for example, mine is the F: drive. The top of the list/root of your sd card is the very first place you will come to when you open the drive that pops up when you connect your phone to the computer.

It shows up on the bottom of the list....
