A few days ago I emailed HTC with some concerns regarding updating the incredible to 2.2, the reception issues, and battery life. They wrote me back and said HTC is completely and totally committed to all there devices regarding updates. They noted the Eris upgrade to 2.1 and basically said Verizon is the reAson for any delays. They also said they're aware of the reception Issue, and are currently working on a maintenance release that will be over the air! Finally about the battery, they say If you set ur gmail to not update as frequently and arnt using Bluetooth or wifi, and still have battery life you should go to Verizon and get battery tested. When I'm by a computer I will post entire email. Kinda neat.

while its a known fact VZW does take time to release updates, Droid got 2.1 mid march and HTC took 1.5 months basically to get 2.1 ready and passed with VZW. It would be nice to get that down to a couple weeks seeing as some of this stuff doesnt leak like OS do with blackberries.

You cant change how the Gmail app works, its push, there is no adjustable level so i am not sure what the HTC guy was talking about.

But when it comes to battery life, shouldn't we be able to leave all of that stuff on? It is like giving an automobile a stereo, air conditioning, GPS, and power steering, and then saying to improve performance, just turn these things off while driving.

Good point. While we cant expect miracles with batteries and electronics, the battery performance is indeed poor. Sure its most likely the system that is draining it but whats the use of a MOBILE phone if you have to keep it plugged in and charging half the time?

Dont get me wrong, I love this phone. I just kicked ATT and the Tilt 2 to the curb and im glad I did. This phone is very fast and smooth.

do you not use the gmail app?

howarmat is eluding to the fact that gmail app is push and takes a lot less power than the htc mail app which it sounds like you are using.

Not a fair comparison at all. The battery power vs size just isn't up to par with technology today.

Either get the 3000 and accept a thicker phone, or make some sacrifices (i.e. don't pull facebook and twitter every 5 minutes while putting weather update on gps/geolocation update), or bring a charger with you if you are going to be playing video games and using gps for hours.

It's not fair at all to blame the Incredible. It's the technology of batteries which is why so many regulars/techies get so angry at the people who complain about it.

:)

Oh btw, air conditioning costs you $$$ it sucks your gas so you have to fill up faster ;p

howarmat: i believe as the op suggested, since the email was from an htc guy, im sure he was referring to the htc mail app which you can change update frequency, but you are right that you cannot change the frequency of update for the gmail app as that is pushed. as for the battery size, it is pretty pathetic particularly for a smartphone but they may have done this to subsidize cost and to be honest this wont turn me off to the phone itself as i plan on buying an extended battery myself

I had e-mailed them about the HTC logo peeling off, due to heat, snagging, whatever. After about 4 days of a few back and forth e-mails, I found out some stuff:
1) They have a third party that handles accessories, which some reps (one phone, one e-mail, i called when my e-mail didn't submit...was just work internet not letting me upload pictures:rolleyes:) thought was where to send me (which didn't have any backplates anyhow)
2) You get the same rep, atleast as identified through the service ticket, I got a nice lady name Jacqueline, [North America Support (Repair Inquiry)].
3) They're pretty damned good, atleast in my case. The 3rd party (PCD) didn't work, what probably happened was that it's still so new, that PCD (they take care of all of HTC Verizon and US Cellular phone warranty issues) didn't have any, so the person I talked to just didn't know what to do. Well, instead of bouncing me around departments, foisting re-explaining my issue/case, my HTC contact, said she'd look into it. And she did. She did whatever she needed, and it was completely transparent to me. I just sent a couple messages back, not being a jerk, and thanking her.
They're sending me a new backplate, but it will take about 2 weeks, probably because that PCD company didn't have any in stock yet. I've included the service ticket with responses and stuff if anyone was curious. I was rather impressed by it.

On a semi-relevant note, I got more than 26 hours out of my DINC on my day off, with over an hour of robo defense, some 3g web, some wi-fi web, an hour or so of talking. I wanted to get numbers from 100% to dead, so around 18% before i went to bed, I had to play more robo defense, run pandora and watch you tube before I snuffed it. When I get a chance, I'll remember to record the stats and post them.

But when you buy a car you have a choice. You can get a 575 HP GT500 that's not gonna get very bad gas mileage or you can get a Hybrid that sips gas. I came from a TP2 that had a 528 Mhz processor but came with a 1500 mga battery. The Inc has a 1300 mga battery. I would much rather have the faster processor and maybe have to hit the charger a little more often then suffer the poor performance of the slower phone. It's not so much the phone manufacture as it is the battery tech that's lagging behind. They can only put but so big of a battery before the phone becomes larger and heavier. The EVO only has a 1500 mga battery as big as that screen is and imagine trying to run a mobile hot spot for several wireless devices for any amount of time. The EVO owners will be the next group crying about battery life. As for me I enjoy the phone and am happy with the overall performance.
