Installing the OTA 2.1 file

I have v2 and I'm debating b/t manually updating and waiting to see what happens. Idk what to do.

Well you have already screwed yourself with the hboot situation, and OTA wont fix that. So you might as well just grab leak 3 and get up to date that way.
I mean you are already experiencing 2.1, so you can just patiently wait out the whole 2 week period and see if you do receive the OTA, but... for what?

I had the same calendar bug. You need to go Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and find and click the Calendar application. The touch the button to "Clear Data". You will not actually lose your calendar data, but will solve the "force close" error that you are seeing.

This also fixed the weather issue I was having where clicking from the HTC clock would force close weather (it would also force close when opening it from the application drawer). It wasn't even showing the weather on the clock, so I was getting a little annoyed.

I just cleared the data on a couple different weather applications (I think "HTC Weather Sync Provider" was the one that fixed it), and no more force closes.

Just took the plunge on this update. After a lot of thought (going back to the 1st leak) I liked the idea that PCD will probably have update available to download later that I can run on it. Always like some sort of "offical" backup plan.

I did wipe my phone before starting and then even did a full wipe after just to get that "out of box" experience.

Update went smooth, no issues. Checking things out. Like the new menus icons. Weather animation is neat.

This may be a silly question, but my brother who has an Eris is REALLY skeptical and scared he is gonna lose his contacts. I don't know how to tell if they are synced on his phone.. but shouldn't they be by default??

Nvm, it's the same as the droid in the settings. Just didn't see it before. This 1.5 is confuuuusing

Disclaimer - Try this at your own risk. I'm not liable if you brick your phone. This is a simliar process for installing updates on the Moto Droid.

NOTE: I DIDN'T LOSE ANY DATA AFTER THE UPGRADE, but some people might. I didn't have much installed/setup. My gmail and contacts synced up, my messages were still all there, but my home screens were different.

Okay, this is all coming from 1.5.

As far as I know, Leak Jumpers are out of luck. From what i've heard, V3 leak = Official OTA..(or pretty dang close)

First, download this OTA file:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...36.605.1_1.17.605.1_release_0420.79112f65.zip

Rename it to update.zip and put it on the SD card in the TOP LEVEL (root) Directory. So if your SD Card comes up as the F: drive, it will be F:\update.zip

DO NOT name it PB00IMG.zip as it will try to load in the next step.

Turn off the phone, hold down VOL DOWN and POWER, just like you normally would to install a leak.

It will search for the files like PB00IMG.zip, etc..etc..

Scroll down to RECOVERY and press the POWER button. The phone will reboot with an exclamation point.

If you're on 1.5, Press the POWER button and the HOME soft button at the same time, and you should be presented with a menu. One of the options should be "Apply sdcard:update.zip". Choose that one.

If you're on a 2.1 leak, you might have to press POWER and VOLUME UP to launch the menu once you're in recovery. (..the update doesn't appear to be working with the leaked versions..)

It will start the installation process.

I got a little worried because it started deleting files and stayed in one spot for what seemed like 10 minutes, (probably 4 in reality), but it eventually finished.

When it's done, choose the reboot option and let it do its thing. It will take a few minutes to boot up intially.

I'm wondering if those who have installed that linked 2.1 (OTA) file will still be offered the OTA via notification from Verizon, and if so, will the notifications persist until installation of the OTA is allowed by the user.

Does it matter? There both the same.

I've been in corporate IT for a long time now. and I've heard "It's the <insert whatever>" from anyone from Microsoft to Citrix to IBM. You name it.

and the bottom line was they were wrong, they either "forgot" something, or didn't think some small detail would matter.

now I am not saying it is or it isn't, I'm just saying.

First time post. I got tired of waiting and installed manually. Absolutely no problems what so ever. No bugs, nothing. Other than the missing features that were promised, 3D album, and pinch/zoom in maps, everything is working flawlessly.

Wife has one also, and I am going to wait until she gets the OTA update. Curious to see if they are any different. However, that being said, when she sees mine, she may force me to update hers. She needs Navigator, bad.

I was thinking about that the day the ota link was available. Somehow vzw has a method of knowing that your already in 2.1 (ota, I supposed, thats why I think vzw is saying that leakers will get ota because somehow the leaks does not get registered to vzw as 2.1 phones, and stay like 1.5) but im not sure of this info, i know I read about it here in one of the forums.

And I dont think manual ota does that if thats the case, but will see about that. No problem for me if I get the ota while running the manual ota, ota manual or not it only erases your home setup and your paired bluetooth devices, ohh and messes a little with your contacts (linking them to all the social crap possible...) it even keeps most of the settings that you had on 1.5, I was amazed...

You two obviously didn't see me post it once. I came back and edited that post. Shame I had to even come back to clarify that..

Sorry, but you didn't edit. This may only be my second post, but even I know that there is an "Edited..." disclaimer at the bottom of any edited post. There was no disclaimer on yours....

Like this:

It's only your second post and you obviously need to spend some more time before telling me what I didn't do.. It's called a Ghost edit. If you edit your post within a certain amount of time after making that post, it will NOT show that you edited it. Can we stop this now?

I've seen some people post that they had to re-install apps and I've noticed some people said they didn't lose "any data" but I wasn't sure what they meant by that.

I did the upgrade and all my wife's apps are still on the phone. Is this normal or are we seeing a little of both (losing apps versus keeping them)?

Also it seems her phone is affected by the bug that always reads 2 bars or less. Haven't seen it go above 2 and she normally has 4 at the house (my Droid has 4 side by side with hers, which shows 2).

I got the OTA yesterday. I was running stock 1.5 previous to that. No root, etc.

Yesterday evening, my phone went silent, and I had to reboot. Wondering if I have a hardware error...

If you have this problem, you need a replacement phone. It's covered under warranty. Something's wrong with the audio chipset, and the 2.1 update "awakens" the problem. There is no software solution.
