RadioShack Associate here, ask away your questions about pre-ordering & price details

my RS told me that i cannot pre order from them because i am paying full price for the phone.
is this true????

I believe that is true. Will confirm later today after work.

Secondly, can you please confirm that folks like me on EPRP do not have to switch plans?

Thanks!!!

I think only Sprint can confirm that.

RS might only be able to look at that, once we start the activation process in the system.

Well under normal circumstances, what do you do if someone comes into RS and purchases a replacement Sprint phone @ retail, who happens to have EPRP? Wouldn't you follow an identical procedure?

I see, i think I got it.

these discounted prices, like $199 have a requirement of a minimum plan for the phone to be activated on. For smartphones it is mostly $69.99.

If your plan is less, our POS will not pull up the $199.99 price for you, it will be higher. We won't we able to override the price, that's just the price set by people who take care of POS pricing and such based on different monthly plans.

So to answer your earlier question about changing your plan, I think yes you will have to upgrade your plan for $199 price.

But if you buy retail, we don't change your plan.

What exactly did you have them do? thanks

I just called and ask them if they offered a student discount.. the first rep told me corporate handled that and transferred me... nice lady came on and told me they have a credit union discount and she would do a search for the school and credit union and see which one was greater :)

The college has to be in their system and mine was not - which was fine because I belong to the largest credit union in the nation - which was in the system and got me a 23% discount :D I took it lol

Here's a question I have not seen asked yet.

IF I have issues with the phone in a certain time frame is not working properly, will you guys fix or do a replacement for the phone? The other retailer who is doing pre-orders is stating that they'll replace it within a years time.

I have already pre-ordered w/ RS, so I'm not jumping ship now, lol.

I'll look into it, if there is anything special on the EVO.

Any chance of getting it early?
Normally things are unsellable in the POS before the release date, so even if someone wanted to sell it to you early, you won't be able to pay.

Do we have to activate the phone in-store, or can we activate it when we get home by calling Sprint. I'm only asking because I have a couple discounts with Sprint, and am a little nervous that if I allow a normal RS rep activate in-store, I'm running the risk of having those discounts dropped.

Normally phone gets activated on sprint network when you turn it on. (unless I misunderstood you )

But RS has to make a new account for you or complete your upgrade process in store, otherwise you will have to buy the phone retail unactivated on a contract. Then you are free to do anything with it as you please.

Can I get the phone on one of my eligible upgrade line, and go home and transfer it to my personal line? (4 phones on family plan)

yes, that can be done in store too by calling sprint.

People are willing to pay full price for this phone and i find it hard to believe that Sprint wont sell it to them unless you have an upgrade.

If that is the case and I cant get this phone on release day, i will be canceling all 3 of my lines. I have been with Sprint for 12 years and this will be big enough for me to drop them.

I would imagine this is the retailors choice and not sprints. I assume they get more money from sprint for a two year contract than they do by selling a phone for full price at minimal mark up. As has been posted here before, you can walk into a sprint store on the 4th and buy one outright and they have no problem with that. It's only the 3rd party resellers that are refusing to do preorders for the full price of the phone.

I just got off the phone with my RS where i pre-ordered yesterday. They did say once again there is no problem ordering even if you want to pay full price.

So i dont know. Maybe some RS are different then others.

Sure they didn't think "full price" after rebates? They might've mis-interpreted as pre-paying the entire amount (after rebates).
