Scared to update to 7.1.1

I'm sure most of you have heard about the new 7.1.1 update bricking some 5x devices. A few weeks ago I went ahead and opted into the 7.1.1 beta to see how it operated. Overall experience was good but it definitely had weird quirks like blank texts and Play Store force closes among other apps. I opted out and am back on 7.0 November patch. I know LG is issuing refunds but I didn't purchase this new and I have no sales receipt although I do have box, original IMEI on it and other plastic materials it came with. I inquired to LG if I would get a refund back but haven't heard anything back. Regardless of whether I have a receipt or not I think they should stand behind their product and issue a full refund if I should encounter any issues. I'd like to update but I'm also worried my phone will be bricked, that LG won't help and I'll be left without a phone (I need it for my job) What's your guys take on this? Should LG issue refunds for those of us who don't have receipts?

From what I've read, LG/Google have been offering refunds for bricked phones without too much hassle so that shouldn't be a worry.

I installed the 7.1.1 update a few weeks ago - basically, as soon as it came up as an OTA update - and I haven't noticed any issues. Having said that, I don't use too many apps and I haven't done anything fancy with the phone - everything's vanilla, with none of the standard Google apps replaced.

My advice though, would be that, if you are worried, don't bother with 7.1.1. I've noticed very little exciting new stuff.

I still waiting also. I haven't seen a single post that anyone has gotten the OTA without being in the Beta Program.

I wasn't in the Beta program and as I say, I got the 7.1.1 OTA update weeks ago.

Not sure how Google prioritise the rollout of OTA updates: I thought it was US first then the rest of the world - in alphabetic order so the UK came close to last ;) - but maybe not.

Just saw this and went to settings to do a manual check for an update and there actually IS one! I don't think that's ever happened before ..

Presumably it's the Jan security update.

Installing now ..

It tells you exactly what it is before you touch "download."

I got 7.1.1 last night as well. We'll see how this goes................

From everything I've read the issues has nothing to do with software versions. It's a hardware issue caused my a faulty mother board. The soldering on the board fails after heat cycles cause issues. Like charging your phone, using games, anything that increases the temperature. LG is no longer offering refunds and are repairing devices or offering replacements with the G4 and G5.

So, go ahead and update to 7.1.1. Version has nothing to do with it. These problems started when people were still on 6.0. If it makes you feel better, take the phone out of the case and set it on an icepack to help it stay cool while updating.

That's the same as I was reading, but it strangely bootlooped right after I upgraded to 7.1 from 7.0. Minutes afterwards. I updated to 7.1.1 and it seems to be working fine on the new phone. Now I'm trying to tackle wiping my old phone before I send it back, but I can't get it booted up long enough to do it in either regular mode or the boot recovery mode.
