Big List of Android Game Reviews [UPDATED DAILY]

So, a few weeks ago I got an idea; since I play so many mobile games anyway, why don't I just commit to sharing my comments / thoughts on the games I play with others who might be interested in some of these games. That way, I'll always have a new game to recommend when people ask, and can act as a curator for new/fun/amazing mobile games.

So that's what I've been doing every week day ever since. The videos aren't exactly reviews with stars and a fixed format to go through and all, but rather a mix of a "let's play" commentary and a review (the point of which is to arrive at an answer to the question of; will I keep this game installed?).

I decided to create this thread here (mods: please reach out if it's in the wrong section) to share the best of the games I play. So if you're looking for a new game to play, you can always just tune in here for a new game each day.

My hope is that you'll all chime in with your thoughts / opinions on the games I review too, so that we can get a meaningful discussion going about what we like/dislike about the games.

I'll update this first post with all the names of the games + downloads link divided into categories/genres as we go on to make it easier to find a game within a certain genre.
For this first day, though, I'll just share three reviews that I made throughout the past few weeks that I like in particular.

Feedback on this format is of course very welcome :)

Constantly updated newest review:

First game: Goddess Primal Chaos

Third game: What The Hen!

RPG games and strategy game are hard for me:saddroid: I prefer easy casual game. Recently favorite: Square Rush and Chameleon.
Square Rush: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.domobile.game.squarerush
Chameleon:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noodlecake.chameleonrun
I actually played a more casual game yesterday. You can check it out here:
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Owings.FishingGame&hl=en

Also, Chameleon Run seems really awesome! Going to do a video about it for tomorrow (aw, just noticed it's not free, which means I wont do a video about it). Still, thanks for the recommendation :)

Right now my faves are.. PinOut (pinball with a twist).. Shooty Skies (comical airplane shooter).. Shooting Stars (comical arcade shooter).. Block! Hexa (colorful casual puzzle).. Dan the Man (arcade fighter).. UFC.. and Alphabear (cute word game)
I enjoyed playing Dan the Man too. Might check out that game again, actually.

The latest gameplay review is of a chaotic shooter that I found super fun, although the controls weren't the best.

Alright, so the latest gameplay review is up. This time, I decided to take an indie tower defense game for a spin. The game was surprisingly unique in it's style/gameplay, focusing on super heroes rather than your typical TD robots / machines to defend yourself. A bit of a mix between RPG and Tower Defense, actually.

Did you guys play any awesome games lately? If so, be sure to share your review/thoughts here :)

Hello, today I found it on Google Play cool racing game-wreck hill racing, has a fun physics.
Haven't played it yet - is there anything that sets it apart from all the other racing games out there?

If any of you are looking for a casual game, I might just have found the perfect game. Covered it yesterday. What really sets it apart is its perfect monetization. There are many great casual games out there (too many, in fact), but most of them throw un-wanted ads in your face at some point. Paper Wings doesn't, and that's what I love about it.

I frequented (& lurked a lot :D) this subforum about ~5 years ago. I was just thinking there weren't as many solid game threads today & stumbled on this one.

Thanks OP, will watch these vids. Looking forward to it.

This old 2011 thread below (don't bump!) was epic. Kemco RPG talk spanning 16 pages. I remember enjoying it. Are there still in depth gaming discussions at times? Surprised there isn't a dedicated gaming subform. First few pages seem mostly app, not game, driven.

Thanks for the kind and really uplifting words, man - appreciate it! :D

Yeah, that is indeed a nice (and old) thread. It is very rare to find any discussions at ALL about mobile games these days, which is actually also part of the reason why I started the YouTube channel and this thread. I wanted to talk about mobile games, and after finding no better medium, I just went with YouTube, hoping that an audience of like-minded people would eventually find me.

Today, I had a look at a super cool roguelike top-down shooter that I'm considering turning into a recurring series, depending on how you guys like it. So yeah, let me know what you think.

I'll definitely be watching your videos as I look to get more into Android gaming!

Sad to hear the gaming discussions have dwindled down over the years in favor of pure app talk.

Check out this thread over at the Racketboy retro game forum if you have a minute. It is recent and has a lot of solid Google Play game recommendations that you might want to review for this thread.
Link: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=49152

As you'll see in that thread, I'm in the market for a new Android tablet, primarily for gaming.

Hope I have more to contribute to this thread in the near future. Any issues if I come in ton your thread to discuss games I'm playing?

Thanks a bunch man, appreciate your support :) If you haven't already, be sure to subscribe on YouTube (https://goo.gl/xKhGjh), as I don't post all the videos over here.

Thanks for the link - will definitely have a look at the games recommended in that thread! :)

You should DEFINITELY come into this thread and discuss the games you're playing. In fact, that's a big reason behind why I started this thread. So yes, please do that.

I played a fun small 80's style casual game the other day, that I thought I'd share my thoughts on here.

The fish game goes way, way, way, back. Like Pocket PC/Palm days.

So in that vein have you played a good DOOM clone? Or did I miss the ID Software release for Android?
I didn't even know that - neat! :)

I haven't played any good DOOM clone. Came across this, though: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.id.doom3bfg&hl=en
It has been developed by ID Software, it seems.

Are there any games you currently enjoy playing on Android? Would love some recommendations!

Today's commentary: Super Phantom Cat
So, I decided to start out this week by playing a somewhat casual game. I say somewhat since the game is actually rather difficult and brings back a very retro vibe. Love it. Just my type of game!

Thanks for the tip NimbleThor. I'll check it out.

I like simple games like 3D Curveball, Bonsai Blast, Farkle Dice, and an old time favorite River Raid.
You're more than welcome, man. Would love if we can have some discussions about mobile games in this thread :) And if you would like to follow the videos, I literally review / comment on one new game each day, so you could subscribe on YouTube. Don't want to nag you into doing it. Just mentioning it this once: https://goo.gl/xKhGjh

I've actually never played River Raid. Maybe I'll check it out. Thanks for the recommendation, dontpanicbobby!

Today's commentary: ANYCRATE
What ANYCRATE sets out to do is really admirable - it tries to make local co-op work on mobile. The developer has done this by simplifying the control-scheme a lot, allowing for only jump and shoot controls. Luckily, the game also features a single-player mode where you play vs. an AI - so don't worry if you don't have anyone around you to play with :) A small indie game that I instantly fell in love with, to be honest.

Today's commentary/recommendation: Bomb Rain
Bomb Rain - Tap Reflex Game is... well, it's frustratingly difficult. Like, really really difficult. But in a good way, though! In fact, I loved to hate and rage at this game just from the beginning. There are no flapping birds in this insanely difficult mobile game, but the bombs are just as deadly, and never forgive mistakes! ;)

Today's commentary/recommendation: FIE Swordplay
Don't let the cover fool you! FIE Swordplay may seem and sound like a very serious fencing game for true fencing enthusiast, but it's actually a very casual game that can be played by anyone, while still having enough depth to keep me hooked. Enjoyed the game, and I have a hard time really putting it down once I start playing :)

Today's commentary/recommendation: Dragon Ninja Rush
Dragon Ninja Rush is one of those weird games that hasn't really gotten popular yet, but at the same time has actually been downloaded between 10-50k times. These games are often the hardest to find, as Google Play tends to only recommend brand new games, or already popular games.
If you've played Jetpack Joyride, you'll quickly get into Dragon Ninja Rush. A great game with a monetization that is a bit on the heavy side, but nothing that can't be endured :)

Today's commentary/recommendation: GetMeBro!
GetMeBro! is a game that I was recommend over on the AndroidGaming sub-reddit. It is a fast-paced skill based multiplayer running game where you compete against one other player at a time, aiming to get as far into the level as possible without dying.
The key to winning is to chose the correct power-ups to take with you into the battle, but you only get to chose two power-ups per match, so chose wisely! The game has everything you'd expect from a multiplayer game, such as a highly customizable character, unlockable loot chests etc. Lastly, a pretty neat feature of the game is that it has a singleplayer play-mode that can even be played offline!
The monetization seems a bit heavy, but does not rely on ads and you don't ever HAVE to buy anything. Think of it a bit like Clash Royale's monetization.

Today's commentary / recommendation: Devil Eater
Devil Eater is a badass action game where you kill devils. Yes, your task is literally take down as many evil demons as possible before you die. There's a bunch of weapons and characters / skins to unlock in the game, and the monetization is very light with no forced ads ever!

As you'll see in the video, the game is super punishing if you don't time your attacks and dodges correctly, so if you're looking for a game to really dive into for a few hours, Devil Eater would be a great candidate.

Great thread. Thanks!
I'm really glad to hear that you appreciate it, man. It actually means a lot to me :)

Couldn't get to post last Friday, so here's that update.

Today's commentary / recommendation: Super Tank Rumble
Super Tank Rumble is like mixing Lego with a tank game. Yes, you get to build your own tanks. And yes, you get to explode other people's tanks in real-time online multiplayer! Oh, and of course there's a singleplayer mode too, if you're offline - or just don't feel like battling other people yet.

I didn't see a single ad in this game, which I greatly appreciated. There are in-app purchases, of course, but I have a feeling they'll only be needed if you really want to compete with the best of the best. So for the majority of players, the in-app purchases won't matter at all.

A great casual game that I'm looking forward to diving even deeper into :)
