Can Verizon LTE phone can be used on Cricket?

I am at&t now but still have old Droid Razr HD that I used on Verizon before. I know it has snapdragon S4 chip that supports standard GSM bands and today's Verizon phones are unlocked global phone. So you should be able to swap SIM for GSM carrier when traveling abroad.

So I tried to activate it for my daughter on Cricket but it didn't work. It keeps saying unknown network when cricket SIM is put in and network mode is switched to GSM or Global. Has anyone had any success in activating Verizon phone on Cricket?

Verizon has locked out USA GSM carriers. It's unlocked for international carriers only. Over on XDA, there maybe away to chagne a bit to allow USA GSM. Idid it for my Razr M which I will use as a backup phone to a Moto G soon

He already has it on AT&T, which is the same network as Cricket. Maybe the APN needs changed or something.

I've been playing around with my Samsung Galaxy S3 from Verizon (non-rooted). It is running Kitkat and I've been able to get it partially working with an AT&T sim from my S4. I can call out and receive calls the the S3, however I'm not able to get data working.

Observations:

I've tried creating a new APN, but it doesn't seem to work. As long as the ATT SIM is in the phone, the new APN is there.
When I return my Verizon SIM into the S3, I've found that I need to set the APN name back to VZWINTERNET. The ATT APN I saved is gone and placing the ATT SIM back in the phone.

Question: Has anyone had any success in getting their phone to work with another carrier? I'll be leaving for Iceland and would like to hear details on what you need to do to get a foreign SIM to work. I would really like to use Google Maps to navigate about. I really don't want to end up using a Global Plan from Verizon for a week.

yes Verizon 4g LTE phones can be used on gsm networks. All Verizon LTE phones ship factory unlocked

I will confirm this as well. I just ported my Verizon Samsung Note 4 to Cricket and everything is working 100%, except the Verizon apps.

I did have to mess around with the APN settings to finally get my SMS to work properly, but everything is good now.

I am experiencing problems with sending and receiving photo messages(emojis send as MMS on the galaxy as well so they are not sending either), and I am unable to link my facebook to any apps such as Candy Crush unless connected to WIFI.

does anyone know of any setting that need to be changed or any further unlocks that need to be done to start receiving photo messages again? Its driving me crazy!

I installed Textra as my default texting app. Fixed all my Note 4 sms mms issues.

Today I purchased a Verizon Galaxy Note 3 on Ebay & seller said phone is not "UNLOCKED" so can I still activate it with CRICKET GSM (if I Reset the APN SETTINGS) OR DOES PHONE NEED TO BE UNLOCKED FIRST BEFORE RESETTING THE APN SETTINGS? PLEASE HELP

Oh my goodness... Ever since I switched from Verizon to Cricket, I have not been able to send or get picture messages and it has annoyed me looking for solutions.. tried the textra... at first I didn't think it was going to work but I had to go into their MMS setting and fix that up right and I finally get picture messages again.. I'm glad I found this solution. Thanks!

I'm away from my computer right now and can't research it, but I believe the Verizon Note 4 is missing some of the bands needed for Cricket.. can you give us the city and state you live in? So we can see what bands Cricket is using in that area..

That would explain why you aren't getting LTE on Cricket and only H+

You can force some devices that are missing some bands to work on LTE. Go into your network settings and set the preferred network as 3G and then change it back to LTE and see if it works. It worked on my LG G2 which is missing a couple of bands needed for AT&T LTE.

Please be aware that if it does work, that it is more than likely that the Google Play store will not function and if you lose signal and regain it again you will have no data. This can be fixed by the method posted above. It's annoying but it works.

Cricket has just announced, in 35 days, they will throttle any user surpassing 22 GB during monthly cycle. That sucks, and makes them the worst choice because their speeds will remain 8mbps.

Try to pick up the LG G3, with KIT KAT 4.4.2. Works like a charm with FoxFi on any network.

I just switched to Verizon and used the TTL trick while using a hotspot, works just fine for me. Used 80GB so far and they haven't slowed me down.

Yes but even Verizon can and may deprioritize you if need be.. actually, their network management doesn't even put a limit on it like Cricket does at 22GB.. for the VZW unlimited plan they just say they can give you lower priority if their is Network congestion.

No difference than what Cricket has announced

Yeah but think of it this way... No matter what is going on with the towers, Cricket will always be capped at 8mbps, while Verizon wont be. If the tower isn't congested you will enjoy full speeds, and during the night when nobody is on, you enjoy even faster speeds. Need to download a large file? Just do it over night when nobody is on!

Cricket just made their plan very unappealing by introducing de-prioritization while at the same time keeping the download cap. You might as well go with MetroPCS if you want Unlimited data for a decent price.

Btw, even during peak hours, I still get 20mbps+ on Verizon and 40mbps at all other times. Both of which you would never see with Cricket.

I really have no needs for anything higher than 8MB and metroPCS has the worse network in the world here.. 5 miles off the interstate and you can kiss T-Mobile goodbye..

Why do you guys keep focusing on that crap? Who cares about de-prioritization????? It's not the boogeyman like everyone says it is! If you live in a heavily congested area, your speeds will suffer anyway. Every network does it so please stop mentioning it every 2 seconds. Even when networks are congested, the speeds are still usable, you can watch YouTube or read your emails just fine - and that's what matters. You don't need 40mbps or 20mbps, but companies are nice enough to allow you to get those speeds when possible. Cricket sums it up the most, 8mbps is more than enough for most people, 8mpbs = 1MB/PS. To stream 1080P YouTube videos you need 4-5mbps, and 1080P60FPS is 7-8. Even in congested areas my Verizon speeds were well above 8mbps, infact, they were almost always 16 or higher, even in congested areas after I used 22GB.

If a network is so bad when it gets de-prioritized, then the network is garbage anyway and you probably wouldn't enjoy good speeds to begin with. T-Mobile in my area is ultra congested and you'd be lucky to get over 5mbps during peak hours, it's horrible. I can't imagine how bad Sprint is.

TL;DR
De-Prioritization is on every network and YES Verizon does it at 22GB and not "whenever they feel like it". If your speeds suffer that bad when you are past the 2XGB mark, then your cellular provider is probably trash anyway. Congested is Congested, putting anyone at the top of the list for data isn't going to help that much if the tower really can't handle all of the connections. Just be happy you have a choice when it comes to Unlimited.
