How's that working for you? I read the first book and it was... meh for me. Plenty of other good children's literature out there, now, though. Not like when I was a kid-- there was Roald Dahl and... yeeah. C. S. Elliot, I guess. Hardy Boys and the Black Stallion.

Ok... Speaking as someone who (between 8 and 12), read every Hardy Boys book he could get his hands on.... and has read the entire Roald Dahl Cannon etc... I'm enjoying them. Of course having a 10 year old to read them with helps.

Are they 'great literature'? probably not. Although Like the works of Franklin W Dixon (who I was shocked to find out was a collection of different people) they are great page turners... with the added fun of some great running gags in them. And I now have a daughter who is very clear about the difference between literally and figuratively. Which in my eyes justifies the entire series instantly.


If you're looking for a modern classic children's book that could stand with (and possibly above) any of the books ever written for children then I'd recommend "Fortunately,The Milk ..." by Neil Gaiman which is just wonderful, and deserves reading more than once.

Personally, I wish'd the latter HP books were as polished as the first one was, not that that is world-class literature but it sure is a great story.

The Katniss Everdeen books are better, and I am liking Serafina.

Ahh! There are so many now, and my grandkids aren't old enough to listen to me read them yet. Not likely I'll get the opportunity to turn them into readers, but it would be nice.

I'm re-reading Stephen King's 'Dead Zone'. It's a good story. Might have a watch of the movie - Cristopher Walken I believe, who is always a little creepy.
I notice they've done a remake of 'IT', which could be worth a watch. Also enjoyed the book.

I liked the 'Dead Zone' movie and the show. While I did read and finish It, I didn't like the constant flashing back, forwards and sideways...

Currently, I am reading a memoir by Pat Benatar. I'm also halfway through a textbook about the history of numbers and I have the latest Serafina book queued up.

'It' did chop and change didn't it? But that's the consequence of introducing a party of characters, all with a relevant story to tell. I've seen clips of the original movie and it looks horribly dated, plus I didn't think Pennywise the clown was that convincing. Probably suffered from the limitations of special effects at the time.

Well, I am listening to The Long Way to a Small and Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, listening to books I've already read makes my commute go faster...

I recently finished reading Real Food/Fake Food: Why You Don't Know What You're Eating and What You Can DO About It by Larry Olmstead. It's kind of scary how much our food here int eh US is adulterated and how the government allows it to stay that way.

I think that I will start The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova for my next read.

Love the premise of his books, and really enjoyed the movie. Shame blowback got in the way and the rest of the movies were essentially canceled.
