Help! Rooted my phone...

I rooted my phone using the method stated at How To: Root the MyTouch 3G or G1 in One Click! | The Unlockr

Only difference is everything is now deleted, I'm stuck with the old market, and nothing seems new.

What am I missing out on? I still cant get rid of the applications that come with the phone I will never use (Amazon MP3 etc...)

Is there an after-rooting guide?

if your now rooted you will have to reinstall most of your apps that you had prior to rooting... and sounds like your using an old build if you have the old market... give us the build details and rooted build that you used so we can help you out......

My phone was previously 1.6

I un-rooted my phone using this to get it back to 1.5 as it states I must do. How To: UnRoot Your MyTouch 3G/Get Back to Cupcake | The Unlockr

I then used the method in the link in the first post to 'root' it. All files I downloaded are linked on that page. Maybe I'm just oblivious, but what have I REALLY gained with this root? I thought I'd have a little more to play with, and be able to get rid of those annoying apps I dont need and can't delete normally- and those damn adverts.

Also, what's this exactly?
How To: Load a Custom ROM, Load Hero, and/or Setup Apps2SD onto Your G1 or MyTouch 3G (Best Method) | The Unlockr

you have gained alot with root you just dont know yet and yes there are literally hundreds of custom roms/builds of android with all sorts of goodies... just a matter of choice for you at this point... and yes the rooted build you are using is OLD so i would recommend flashing a newer rooted build and should resolve all the issues your claiming to have...

Hmm I thought everything provided was up to date.

All the rom talk has me confused. Its overwhelming. Can you point me in the right direction?

What I need to do to update aswell. I miss my 1.6 features

Just go to my wiki most of the available builds are there.....

Hmm, it's not working for me.

Says it's not rooted, yet those menus come up when I press Home + power.

Restarting now using the sappimg way to downgrade.

What is the LATEST recovery flasher?
Your wiki's is a broken link.

Edit: I'm in flashrec right now- using the latest on the website.
On this page http://www.ryebrye.com/blog/2009/08/16/android-rooting-in-1-click-in-progress/
which you link me to from your wiki it says:

  1. click on “backup recovery image”
  2. click on “Flash Cyanogen Recovery 1.4″
Did the backup. There is no option for #2 just text in the box ending in ...cm-recovery-1.4.img and under it is download recovery image, restore backup, and reboot into recovery.

Do I enter /sdcard/whatever my recovery image is? What recovry image should I use?

All the ones I could find semmed REALLY old?

I also downloaded "update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed.zip" Which you say to rename as "update.zip" Where's that come into play?

Your wiki is helpfull, but generally confusing still. Put me infront of something mechanical and I have no problem working with it- but I'm not very good at understanding all this. There's alot of broken links and missing information, and holes in the process.

You have to click from one guide to another which also generally don't agree with eachother.

I'm stuck here, maybe I'm misreading something.

here is the long way of doing it but a great way to learn and is completely up to date

if you have any more problems hit me up on gtalk thatguy32404@gmail.com and i can walk you through the steps

Following your guide, downloaded and extracted the .nbh file.

Now only have 5 files listed.

Fill me in here:

"Hold Camera button, and press Power button to enter bootloader mode."
That would be the volume down and power button for MT3G users, right?

"At the home screen hit the enter key twice, type "telnetd" and press enter. IGNORE WHAT THE SCREEN IS DOING"
What would be my enter buton? MT3G has no 'enter' button persay.

"6) Now type the following and press enter at the end of each line

mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd sdcard
flash_image recovery cm-recovery-1.4.img
cat cm-recovery-1.4.img > /system/recovery.img"

Even with the spaces? From my understanding spaces arent 'kosher' at the end of filenames
