Root ZTE Zmax Pro Official Root Discussion

Im currently on b14, but once we get a full root going i will update to b20 with twrp and retry again to see if it still is vaulnerable.
Let me know when you do get to B20. I'll run the exploit on B08, then B20 after B14 has root

If everything goes well, B08/B14 should be exploitable, and TWRP can handle OTA survival as long as recovery doesn't get overwritten.

At this point im waiting for messi or anyone who understands a bit more on knowing how to pull partitions and code a bit to help me..

ZTE has seriously gone thru a hell of alot to keep us out.

They blocked read access to even the /data/local partition.. im trying to find a good mount point thats accessible to copy the boot ramdisk to get all the init files.

I may end up trying to use /data/local/tmp.. perhaps is r/w to all users/groups.

But i can confirm phone has been exploited and i have been able to write to the boot partition.

So the bootloader is not locked or else i would have been perma bricked. DM-verity is just a bitch.
Maybe @Masterchief87. Can come back.

I believe metro wants to update it but as zte released those new phones they won't update the zmax before the last quarter of this year.

ZTE probably won't give the Zmax Pro any updates to a newer Android version at all. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that is how ZTE rolls. Also, I wouldn't be any help as far as trying to root this thing.  I sold mine at least 6 months ago and have no plans to get another one. I'd rather fix my G3 which sadly has a cracked digitizer because I was too cheap to buy a case for it. Also, I just don't care about root or Android like I used to. I am bored with it and have moved on to other hobbies.

I'm so slow! Now I see why this phone is so hard to root. ZTE wants us to buy another phone every year. They keep releasing different versions of the same damn phone, with minimal upgrades. I guess this is how they are able to sell these phones for cheap and still turn a profit. There's not much difference between the Max pro and the Max XL,plus the Max XL and the blade x Max are exactly alike! they know alot of us wants nougat and there banking we ditch our phones for a "newer" one with 7.1.1.
Once this nightmare of a phone is rooted we will finally be able to break ZTE's shackles from around our necks. We wont need to continually buy the same phone over and over. We can just do the upgrades our selves. People are still using and making rom's for the first zmax. rooting this will be a big middle finger to ZTE.

Been following both Root threads for a long while. So I thought I might have to do a post recommending that the only way root might come to this phone might be thru discovery in a class action lawsuit. Since ZTE is so against an unlocked device. And they are so untrustworthy. Glad that won't be the case. We won't have to call Saul.

Well I sure hope this phone will get rooted because I know that hell zte doesn't seem to care about it anymore.

This is all MetroPCS's/TMobiles fault. All of this updates & such are done thru contracts. If MetroPCS/TMobile did not specify Nougat upgrading time table in their contract then it's on their end why everybody else is getting Nougat on the same device. Seems ZTE is such a POS company. They are not even releasing a device a year but the same device every couple of months.

I like 4.4 far more than 5+. 7 seems so wasteful. I'll probably port my own little 4.4 ROM once we have a working recovery going.
I hope you do a Lollipop port instead. That way Magisk can be fully compatible & HideRoot will be a big thing to have.

Am I reading this right ? Not only is Root very likely. But we will probably also end up fully controlling our phones with a Fully unlocked Bootloader? And should be able to use Magisk for stealthy Root & mods ?

I have two OG Stylo and two stylo 2 plus models, all of them are burners. If you're trying to one-up the Zmax Pro, pick a better handset. ZMP is a CFPOS but better than any Stylo lol

I'm hearing people gonna move from the zmax pro to the stylo3+ when it arrives. In my opinion the only phone worth replacing the zmax pro is the axon 7.

The Stylo 3 has already arrived and it's only got a Snapdragon 435 in it. It has slightly better graphics and connectivity but the 617 in our phone is faster. The Axon 7 is a massive leap forward from something like the Zmax, and it's very different. I think all the Chinese 5.7 in.+ devices with the snapdragon 650 series (and very soon the 660) are more of a direct upgrade if you want a similar device.
