Verizon backup assistant or Google Contacts??

Will Droid work with Verizon's Backup Assistant to backup contact list, or synch with Google(gmail/gtalk) Contacts?? Or, both??

The backup assistant costs $1.99 a month, or something like that, but is waived if on Premium plan. I'll be dropping down to the "Connect" plan since don't need VZ-Navigator option anymore, which would mean I'd have to start paying the $1.99 for Backup Assistant, or I assume for FREE synch to Google contacts??

I can't answer your questions about Verizon but I can confirm that Syncing with Google Contacts is Free

Assuming this phone is like all other vzw pda's, back up assistant will not be available. But of course Google Contacts is much better anyway!

Additionally, bua is free if you've ever signed in to your "MyVerizon" account online, and is not tied in any way to your price plan.

And finally, the Connect Plan is for non-pda phones, so would not be an option for you. All vzw pda's require a data plan that is unlimited, for $29.99. So if you drop from Premium down to Select (unlimited voice and texting) and add the data plan, your net increase per month is $10. IMO well worth the additional functionalities of the Droid over a non-smart phone.

hmmmm, I'm currently on Premium plan with my Voyager. I consider the Voyager a very smart-phone.

But, you're saying with the Droid, I'll have to change plans anyways?? hmmmm....

Would the Droid type data plan include tethering to PC to give the PC internet connection?? That was an additional $60/month if I do it with my Voyager phone. Is the Droid even capable of tethering to a laptop??

I didn't realize I'd have to change from a phone plan to a more expensive PDA plan, gggrrrrr...... Hopefully worth it.... It'd be nice if that included tethering, but appears it does not

You can tether with any Android phone, theres a app for that (hahaha had to say it). As far as paying extra to VZW, you can easily get away with tethering on just the 29.99 data feature, just don't go over the 5GB/month cap. If you need more then 5GB then you will need the tether feature from VZW.

actually, the tethering feature IS the 5 GB cap. data through the phone only is unlimited. If there's an app that can get you around having the tethering feature, then my guess is, it would be unlimited.

Don't worry, you get to drop down to a lower plan anyway. You have to drop to the Basic or Select plan. I believe it usually ends up being only $10 extra a month, unless you subscribe to vzw's software then it will probably be cheaper.

Like mentioned previously in this thread, VZW does not offer backup assistant on their smartphones. I encounterd this very annoying BREW txt message when I switched from my enV Touch to my HTC TP2, since the phone was still trying to send information to backup assistant but was failing to connect. I was receiving about 5 txt's a day from it. Thank god I found out why that was occuring

If you do a simple search, you'll find out how to perform some simple hacking to your voyager in the "secret" menu, and you'll be able to tether for free. I teathered via bluetooth on my macbook, was quite nice on roadtrips in the car! It took me all of 5 minutes to hack my voyager.

When I got rid of my voyager, I connected my voyager to my TP2 via bluetooth and sent my entire contact list over to it. Hopefully VZW will have the cords/software in order to transfer contacts though, they always seem to be lagging with the new cables and software needed. I did see pictures of the VZW transfer devices (forgot the proper name for it) that had the Moto A855 name on it though for the latest softwate update it received. So looks like a good chance they'll be able to transfer contacts for you.

Perhaps Verizon will have a nice export tool for that.

When I jumped from Verizon to using my HTC Hero, I just copied the list from the backup assistant, and made it into a comma-delimited file. From there, I used Google's import feature.

It was successful in making all of the contacts, but it needed a lot of cleanup to get all of the fields correctly mapped.

Yeah, when I got my G1 I exported from Outlook to a comma deliminated file and imported to Google Contacts. I had to go through and clean up a few contacts, but for the most part it worked very well. The cool thing about Google Experience phones is that once you have your Google Contacts set.. you can log into your new phone.. and all your stuff (contacts, calendar and Gmail) is there and ready to use. That is one of my favorite features of Android phones. Sometimes I'm at my PC and know I want to call somebody soon on my phone.. I'll open up Gmail on my PC and enter the contact info. When I pick up my phone I check the contacts and there it is. It puts a smile on my face every time.

Hi. I'm using a Motorola Droid. Anyone heard of the futuredial suite smartphone edition? Is it good? My friends said that it works for the Droid.

I've used FutureDial products going way back, but at this point there are simply too many better alternatives to paying $19.95 for FutureDial.

Google will keep the contacts synced and backed up, but MyBackupPro at $5 is pretty awesome, backs up to the SD card and online, data and apps. Plus, third party apps are now beginning to integrate with it, so the data from those apps get backed up, too (instead of just Contacts, Call Log, Bookmarks, SMS, System Settings, Android Home, Alarms, Dictionary, and Music Playlist), I use Note Everything Pro, for example, and my notes from that app are backed up right along with everything else.
