Help No 'contacts' in my google account on Nougat Phone

Hello - I have a strange thing happening. I have a Mobile Phone with Nougat on it. Added my Google account as usual, looked in my contacts and there were no contacts in there. went into phone settings/accounts clicked on google and all things are there to sync like app data, Drive, Calendar, google fit, even 'people' but no 'contacts' - wonder why it isnt there? and how to add it manually to the list so that all my present and new contacts sync OK to google contacts?
Thanks. - have tried clearing data and cache still the same (tried to remove google account off phone so i could try re-installing it again, but it says my administrator has forbidden removing the account and i dont really want to go to the hassle of adding another account if I can help it)

Did you have previous contacts saved on another android phone via Google?
If so then they should be there,If not.Then there won't be any to be saved.

thank yes, in 2 of my other phones with Lollipop the 'Contacts' shows up in the Google accounts in them. It should by rights show up in this Nougat phone i got. i wonder why its missing? - as a workaround i had to go on PC , into my google accounts and export my contacts in csv and then import them into my Nougat phone. Not Ideal. I want any new phone numbers I save on my phone in future to sync automatically to my google account as normal

thank yes, in 2 of my other phones with Lollipop the 'Contacts' shows up in the Google accounts in them. Well hopefully they will be there and saved to your Google account from now on.

Thanks, but you see the 'contacts' are there to sync in my lollipop phones in google accounts settings - but i will be using this Nougat phone now and want the 'contacts' to be in the google accounts section in the nougat phone so i can carry on syncing automatically when I save a new phone number into my Nougat phone. - Wondering why it isnt there and how do I get the contacts to show in the google accounts section on my nougat phone so contacts can be auto synced as normal along with calender and drive etc...
