TWERP, permanent brick.

OK, had fun with rooting and other customizations for years, but lost interest. So decided to play with roms.
First thing I found out was that it Optimus V was so old, almost impossible to find the utilities for it.
But managed to get almost everything I needed, ADB, fastboot, bootbox, etc.
Hit the wall when it came to Twerp, seems most older versions have been removed by creators.
So tried the few I found that were supposed to be compatible.
Tried 2.2.2.1, said it installed, but only booted into fastboot mode, no twerp.
Tried a couple other versions, but they wouldn't install, maybe bad image.
After a couple weeks, finally found one more, might have been for S and I assumed it was 5(v). Well it also installed without error, but trashed recovery mode. I only got a blank screen. Was able to pull battery and boot into normal user mode. But since no longer any recovery mode, can't install any more versions, and the utilities no longer see a device.

So I tried the last ditch effort, went to privacy in settings to see if it would reset. That hard bricked everything. Now stuck on LG screen with normal boot, or blank screen with recovery boot.

But it was fun, Anyway, from what I read, no way to recover it now. So what I learned was ... DON"T wait 5+ years, and expect to find what you need! Download everything when the phone is new.

In the process of resetting the phone wipes all data and reinstalls the stock ROM (not sure about the second part correct me if I am wrong). When you booted into normal user mode which ROM was visible? The one you installed?
Have you tried to flash the stock image?

I never installed a custom rom because I never got TWERP working. Last time I successfully booted,it was stock rom.

Last version of TWERP trashed recovery mode, could not go back to previous version. Research said that menu privacy option was my last resort. But guessing it hard bricked it because original recovery had been overwritten by bad Twerp install.

Factory reset only wipes data. It does not reinstall a stock ROM or undo any changes to system software.

If you have an unlocked bootloader you should be able to use fastboot to flash a replacement recovery image. Otherwise reflashing the device sounds like the only option (and I'm not familiar with LG so can't talk you through the procedure).

The key issue here was that I wanted a custom recovery BEFORE attempting a ROM. But no way to change anything, as last version of twerp TRASHED recovery mode. Blank screen, no fastboot, no communication with adb.

So in summary, guessing factory reset could not complete since recovery mode was trashed.

If recovery is dead then you wouldn't be able to do a factory reset. But not being able to access fastboot mode (which wasn't clear until you said this) is much more serious.

If you flashed a TWRP image that was built for a different device it could have caused more serious damage than just recovery not working. That's why it's really important only to flash mods built for the specific model. But if it had managed to damage fastboot mode I'm surprised that the phone booted and gave you the option of doing a reset, since fastboot is part of the bootloader (and if that's damaged it's game over). If recovery was working but had the wrong partition layout then a reset could cause additional problems, but it sounds like this final recovery was never working.

Recovery not working is not a killer problem, but being unable to access the bootloader or fastboot mode doesn't leave many options. I can only suggest trying the battery pull and anything you can think of to try to get into fastboot mode. I'm not an LG expert, but with the devices I do know if you can't get into fastboot/download mode there's not much more you can do without specialist equipment.

Yes, maybe I wasn't clear enough, assumed that blank recovery screen would suffice. Basically since there was nobody left on earth who could tell me the right version of Twerp, had to experiment. EVERY link except one was dead, and that link had a corrupted image file according to adb and fastboot. Someone had said that Optimus S version would work, but none of those would install either. So with no resources left to find, just started experimenting with the oldest versions I could find for LG, hoping to get lucky.

Maybe someone will buy it for parts on ebay so it isn't a total loss, all the hardware still good.

You confirmed my original suspicion. If you want to play with your phone in the future, get all you need now, because no internet source lasts forever.

Also confirmed that nobody on the face of the earth has an active link to the correct version of TWERP for the LG Optimus V....

If you're still interested in moving forward with the Optimus, and so i better understand the pickle you're in, could you please post up some more precise info?

Since it is hard bricked and unresponsive, no way to move forward.
But posting for reference, doubt it anybody even owns a phone that old any more.

To the best of my memory, android gingerbread 2.2 was o/s. See first post for other details.

Think the desperation twerp install of 2.6.3 was the one that bricked it,

Been there, done that. As you can see from the links they do not include anything before twerp 2.6

I do remember updating from original 2.2 o/s many years ago, so probably 2.3

I also remember rooting with gingersnap after the o/s update.

Not sure what you meant by that, guessing you talking about the prompt to enter file transfer mode? Not needed, only usb debugging required. fastboot worked fine until reboot after the final twerp install

No @Robbedd you have got me wrong. Try this

1)Press and hold both the “Vol Up” and “Vol Down” buttons. (Easy way

is to press in the center of both the buttons).

2)Next press the Power button.

3)As soon as the screen turns on insert the USB cable to your computer.
If successful, You will a LG Home screen with a syncing sign at the center bottom of the screen and above it will be written “Downloading in progress, please do

not disconnect or power off the phone.” (OR SIMILAR).

Nope, never seen that method. My phone used home+up+power.for recovery mode, and then I plugged usb in. When working it did have a similar message until commands were given through adb or fastboot or other.

But nothing except lg screen with your sequence, pretty much the same as turning on power

All buttons become unresponsive once on, computer recognizes no device attached. Battery must be removed to power down.

OK, your knowledge pointed me in the right direction, thanks so much. It was educational, but unsuccessful.

What I found out, specific to my phone.

Connect phone in emergency mode (Phone off> Volume Down + Back key + plug in USB)
This worked, but device still not detected in emergency mode.

But it might be because my USB port was old and worn out and known flaky. In fact, in later years had to use an external charger for the battery because USB charging was unreliable.

So I'm guessing that I finally lucked out and got a "good" usb connection in non emergency download mode

Once download mode was entered WITHOUT being in emergency mode, LG app was able to communicate with phone. Sadly, it could not recover my phone after multiple attempts , but proves even hard bricked phones still have hope!
