Someone else had posted some findings between two different kernels and battery power, I can't find the thread - it's late though.

Anyhow - the Bekit kernel was recommended as being the ONLY type to use with BB V1, upon initial release. Battery sucked, we all know it.
Then I tried SetCPU, and a ton of different configurations - still sucked.

I have JuiceDefender and some like it, others don't - I happen to like it and always have.

The one thing I noticed initially upon the Bekit/V1 release was that the JuiceDefender widget:
JuiceDefender_widgets.jpg

(I grabbed this off google, it's the one on the left)

...was showing a constant 1.15x whereas my battery multiplier previously was a constant 1.95x. This widget simply confirmed that my battery life was sucking bad.

Went to the P3 1200LV and my widget made it to 2.15x and I noticed big time. Today I got 13 hours of light/moderate useage (internet, calls, text, email - NO wifi or GPS) and 13 hours got me down to 25%.
With the Bekit I was getting roughly 8 hours or so. Dropping 10% an hour on sleep.

I also want to add that I tried Chevy's 1200LV and it rebooted my system randomly.

The temp on Bekit and P3 are both good though. The Bekit would spike fast and drop, and so far the P3 is pretty stable and constant at 120 under good load.

Lastly - for those that don't understand the JuiceDefender widget, it is a multiplier. JD turns off APN for 15 minutes and then opens it for 2 minutes to save battery. The 2.15x means that I am getting 2.15 times the battery power as I would without toggling APN every 15 minutes - you get the point.

Well, that's my review. Marked, good increase in the first test day. No reboots, no major heating issues, etc. I used SetCPU and kept everything else constant with my testing, so this is a nice comparison.
Peace
Nick

I'm on NexBeast, based off of BB1.0 as you all know, and I'll say that I've found similar results using P3 over BeKit, although I have no proof or data to back it up.

Anecdotal evidence for me shows that I'm staying much cooler and battery MUCH longer with P3 than the default Bekit kernal that came with Fab's NexBeast.

No problems with random rebooting or anything either.

BTW, I used SPRecovery and simply flashed the P3, nothing special. And I'm on the 1.0GHz Kernal, not the 1.2.

So when APN is turned off, can you still receive voice and SMS?

Just data is blocked?

And if you want to access data (wake up phone and open browser) do you have to do anything manual to turn the data connection back on, or does it turn on automatically when you are actively using the phone?

Never mind, found the info here:

Sounds interesting, going to give it a try, but it has a lot of negative comments in the Market...

I havent noticed any difference in my battery life using juice defender. I tried adding the APN widget to my screen and manually turning my data connection off. After doing so I was still able to surf the web, etc. On a side note, I'm a pretty heavy gtalk user, so this application may just not be for me if it will keep me from getting messages from gtalk.

Anyone know why it's not working for me?

I'm using BB 1.0 and the LV 1.0ghz kernel from p3droid.

I can't believe the battery difference! Thanks for that, I haven't charged it once yet today. I am power user and I recently posted somewhere else that I keep a charger in every room in my house, one in each car and portable battery charger. I usually keep it on a charger and use my headset. IT WAS THAT BAD! I think its going to make it the entire day on one charge now.

I have to strongly disagree. I feel for those of you that had battery issues, but I had no such problem. From day one with BB 1.0/Bekit I noticed much better battery life. I can almost get through 2 full days before I get a low battery warning (~41 hours). This is with light- moderate use of phone, emails, texting, and some streaming radio.

My battery life before BB1.0 (0.8, 0.9, and stock) was pretty poor. I had several days that I had to recharge at lunch just to make it through my workday.

Whatever the issue is, I hope that this other kernel, Juicedefender, or whatever solution, that you all can get that kind of battery life.

Now I can last about a whole day without having to recharge.. and that is with 2hrs of streaming music, heavy texting and net use.. and the here and there 1hr phone talk usage....yeah.. im loving this, but ill give P3Droid a shot...right.....now =D test 1

i cant load the p3 kernals from rom manager.
anyone else have this problem?

No.
What exactly is the problem? A little tip - if you downloaded it successfuly, there is a ROM manager type folder on your SD card and you can access the file directly via the ROM manager download folder, and you can put it on your SD root and manually install it with SPR.
This should work, just make sure the file is completely downloaded, as this can cause a "bad" install message.

It is interesting that you say that. I did a total battery discharge last night to the point where I could not boot it and the battery gave me a slightly more accurate reading, but I am still noticing that in an hour and a half today I dropped from a full charge to 92% being on standby with P3.

I am going to bounce back to bekit and give this another go - although I still stand by my previous statement that initially, bekit was much harder on my battery.
We shall see.

Thanks, I installed JuiceDefender a few days ago to try it and it's definitely staying on my phone. I can get 30hrs off the charge now when before I'd be down to 30-40% by the end of the day. Now I'm at 60-70% and if I don't use it 80%+. Before even if I didn't use my phone I'd still have to charge it overnight because it wouldn't have made it to the afternoon the next day.

Also, I'm using P3 kernels. The Bekit ones weren't very stable for my phone.
