downgrade to 1.5 from OTA 2.1 (doesn't work for leaks)

I found this on Android Central (thanks to IzelTokatl) and someone there did verify it worked for OTA 2.1 phones. I tried it on my leak version 3 phone and I got the Hboot error again. I'm thinking this does not bode well for phones with the leak as once Verizon releases the upgrade for download from PCD or HTC we still won't be able to use it until the Hboot problem is fixed.

The following instructions for doing the downgrade to 1.5 are cut and pasted from the Android Central forum and I edited them for PC's:

Download the MR2 Upgrade Eris ROM from verizon partner:
Personal Communications Devices

1. Unzip the file
2. Plug your phone into your PC.
3. Navigate to folder ADR6200_MR2_Upgrade
4. Run .exe file in the folder (RUU_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_1.17.605.1_release_signe d_with_driver.exe)
5. follow on screen instructions.

i'm a regualr browser of this forum and i didn't see this on here before. but i've had issues with access to this site off an on and there are a lot of useless 2.1 post popping since the OTA so i could have missed it.

from what i understand from the android central thread it should work for any OTA 2.1 phone. the OTA removes root and the guy who tested it supposedly went directly from OTA 2.1 to 1.5 using the MR2 update.

the program runs off your PC and tries to update your phone

This is true, I stumbled upon the other thread this morning (luckily as well, I'll agree it was well hidden with all the 2.1 hype) Anyway, last week I went 1.5 to to manual OTA 2.1 install, I didn't like it from the beginning as I knew what to expect as I am on a replacement after having the sound issue with the leaks I was lucky enough to get replaced. But I figured I'd give it some time since I still had a little hope from it being the "official" version. My battery life was just horrible and didn't improve. 50% time without signal is present. overall just wasn't what I expected. So, I was definitely happy when I found the thread earlier. I wasn't too sure if it would work but I gave it a try and it went through like a charm!!! Running 1.5

the problem as far as I know it is the bootloader. the leaks have a higher version than the OTA, 1.5 and 1.5 root. cant downgrade to 1.5 with HBOOT version 1.49. I could be wrong, but thats what ive gathered

You are correct but the OP is stating in the subject that you can downgrade if you've gotten the OTA. Those that got the OTA did not have their HBOOT changed like those that installed the leaks, the OTA people have their original HBOOT version intact.

Yes exactly, Frisco for one has said he wants to go back to 1.5 and I thought this might work for him.

Didnt catch that. Guess I missed the "downgrade to 1.5 from OTA 2.1 (doesn't work for leaks)" part

yes i see it now, i'm not on at night and their server was having fits this morning and i couldn't get on till after 11 am and the thread was buried by then. plus i figured why search for it as no one else uses that function on this forum either lol :)

i was holding out hope once the 2.1 update is on PCD I could download and install it from there but i think we will still have the hboot issue.

if the mods or admin want to merge threads that would be great.
