I used to buy a new phone several times a year because I love having the latest and greatest. I haven't felt inspired enough to upgrade in awhile though and am still rocking my Nexus 6P. Anyone else out there in the same spot?
Anyone planning on upgrading to the Galaxy Note 8 or Pixel when they launch. I want something new and different and just feel a bit uninspired. I might get something weird just for fun.

I'm going for which ever phone @Rob buys me next

I know that feeling. I'm tempted by the Essential phone (assuming it comes to the UK before my current phone dies) in a large part for that reason.

I'm even finding myself thinking weird thoughts like "maybe I won't root next time"...

Im interested in this years pixel, but I'm disappointed at the lack of a headphone jack.

I listen to about 5-7 hours of podcasts a day, so I don't look forward to the possibility of another device (headphones) to charge.

Very unsure at the moment. Last years Pixel isnt looking too bad either. Depends on price after the new one launches

I'm really debating jumping on the Note 8 depending on battery life. I kind of wanted to jump on the Z2 Force to have some fun with mods but seems that device was a bust.

    Tick tock tick tock

I don't think I could go back to non-stock android. Samsung hasnt exactly been quick with software upgrades, and that is important to me. The state of root being perpetually in question on some devices means custom ROMS may not be a solution either.

There are some crazy-good deals to be had on last year's Pixels already. It may be tough to find them in stock from a reputable retailer once the new ones launch.
Very true. I /really/ considered pulling the trigger when the play store had that recent sale.

That feeling comes to us all if we live long enough...

I'm holding it from upgrading my 6P as well. The S8 was tempting, and the Pixel is nice, but I don't see them as massive upgrades. Better equipment, sure, but why pay the $$$ when mine works very well? I just replaced the battery, so I can get 3-4 hours of SOT, which is great.

I actually just sold my S8 and scored a deal of the century on a brand new nexus 6p 64g for only $150! Im still in shock over the deal I got. I could not believe it. I really didn't like the S8 all they much anyway and I've owned a 6p before and it's always been my favorite Android device to date still yet.

Wife is going to have to give up her 6P for something. BT randomly connects or disconnects, her microphone is near unusable, her GPS restarts itself and loses signal... It's ridiculous. Weird part is, mine works fine.

Has she tried a factory reset? Starting fresh can help a lot, particularly following a major OS update.

I'm of the opinion that if you're upgrading, go all out and get something top of the line so it lasts longer. I have a 6p and after having my battery life get unbearably bad, I jumped to the pixel 2 xl

What color did you get. I want one badly but my Nexus 6p is brand new so I'm not having any issues with mine so I can't justify going out and getting the new pixel. The only thing I don't like which I know bc I had it before with my Samsung S8 is the 18.9 ratio. It's just too narrow. Seems to be off due to that but I still would love to have one. I just found a apk file on XDA that is the official pixel launcher that installed on my 6p so at least I have the same exact set up now as you pixel owners will have. The notification dots and Google Assistant both work perfectly. If I were to pick up the pixel 2 it would probably be the 5 inch due to the 6 inch having that way too narrow 18.9 ratio build to it. None the less its still an awesome phone with dual front facing speakers. Congrats on your new pick up.

I agree. As Google being a Android purist you'd think they would have definitely included a headphone jack on these two new pixels. I was shocked when I didn't see that on them. Plus the other drawback of the XL 2 is the 18.9 ratio. It's like the s8 which I had and it way too narrow to me. Just seems out of proportion badly. My Nexus 6p is brand new so I certainly can't justify getting a new phone right now but if I were to get a pixel it would probably be the 5 inch model due to it not having the 18.9 ratio build.

Actually the proportions of the 2 Pixels are very similar: just one has more screen and one has more bezel.

The S8 is narrower for two reasons: first they use a slightly longer format (18.5:9), but more importantly they roll
the edges of the screen down. But yeah, it's a matter of taste.

I prefer the design of the 2 XL, but it's too big for me.

I ended up getting the black 128 gb xl. I wish they had a gold option like my 6p but oh well, lol
