Help Why is my internal storage so low?

I'm just wondering if this is normal. I don't have any music or videos stored internally, only about 30 or so wallpapers. Is the space all from apps? How do I see exactly what is in the internal storage? When I connect to my computer there's nothing in any of the folders except the wallpapers I added.

That space cannot be for apps because apps are unable to recognize the internal memory at this time.

If you download a file browser (such as Astro), check your /emmc directory and you will be able to see whats on your internal.

I checked the /emmc directory through Astro and it says the directory is empty.

that dir can't be empty.

that is a TON of usage. Try a reboot and see if the numbers change.

I uninstalled Astro and downloaded it again. The /emmc directory now shows a ton of stuff.

Most of the content seems to be from:
.bookmark_thumb1
.Trashes
DCIM > .thumbbnails

I said I only have about 30 wallpapers but no way those can make up 3 gigs, right?

EDIT: I moved my wallpapers to the SD card so now DCIM is empty.

What is .Trashes for? Can I delete everything in there? I mean it looks like all the stuff I have deleted, hence "trash". Why is that even kept in there if I've deleted it?

EDIT: Well, I went ahead and deleted everything in .Trashes and the internal storage is now 6.60GB/6.60GB.

It could well be that Android will automatically start deleting files from the .Trashes directory once it detects that the internal storage is running low. In which case the high space utilization may not actually be a problem. Might be interesting if someone could do a test.

I just checked recently and my cache for the browser had taken up over 200mb of room, that of which is on the internal memory... If you use the browser a lot that's probably what was using the space.

Do you have a Mac? I'm pretty sure that .trashes is created by OSX. You probably deleted a bunch of stuff on there when connected to your Mac and didn't empty the trash before ejecting.

Yes, I do. That's a bit annoying. I figured dragging files to the trash would get rid of them.
