Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

I have made an app for the android to assist with the Signal 50% fix. I call it "CellSignalFix". It will start up every time you reboot your phone, when you click the "Fix Signal NOW!" button, it will turn airport mode on and then tell you to plug your phone into the USB/Charger. When it detects the phone has been put into charge-mode, it starts a 25 second countdown. When the countdown is over, it tells you to unplug the USB/Charger. When it detects you've unplugged, it will turn Airport mode off. These are the steps posted a few pages back to fix the issue.

I've verified it on my eris. I used to be down to around 75% battery life by the time I got to work in the morning (after charging all night), and then around 40% when I left work. Now, the battery life is around 95-96% when I get to work, and around 82% when I leave work for the day.

I'm thinking of putting the app on the android market, if anyone is interested in such an app?? I know it really doesn't do anything you can do yourself, but I wanted to make an android app. lol

I'm also thinking of compiling it for android 1.5 (my wife is still on that version), and I think that bug is in that version as well, but can't verify since it doesn't have detailed battery usage. I was experiencing the same battery life issues on 1.5, so it's possible.

ok so i dont have my charger with me and i just put my phone on airplane mode and left it for like a min or two then turned off airplane mode and voila my time without signal went from 50% to 0%....now i will say that it did make me log back into gmail.

this hasnt been a problem for me recently, but i have done like 5-10 reboots, since the 2.1 upgrade, and it only asked me to login the first 2-3 times before i did the *228 option 2 so idk...

EDIT: also watching my signal i noticed that i went from 1-2 bars to 3-4...

OTD i have to agree with you so many of these "fixes" make absolutely no sense but hey...they work...weird....

In my personal experience, it's been enough to just put it in airplane mode for a few seconds and then take it out of airplane mode. The only reason to put it on the charger is if you want to reset the battery usage numbers, but if you just do airplane on/off, it will slowly lower the percentage from 50% to 0%.

Cool! I've noticed that just turning on/off airplane mode didn't reset the usage numbers, but I've never watched them long enough after to see if they did in fact drop. I'll try it out, and maybe I'll add an option in the app to 'reset usage numbers', which would go through the whole motions of plugging it in and unplugging it again. Unless someone knows of actual code to do the reset behind the scenes. Maybe fake a charge? It's probably a function when the charger is unplugged to do the reset.

I rebooted, turned airplane off, waited 30 seconds, turned airplane on, and the 50% time without a signal went to 49%... I locked the phone and 35 minutes later, my battery level (not the time without a signal level) had dropped from about 50% charged down to 27% charge, while in sleep mode. The time without signal is still 49%. ;-) The battery seems to be draining like there is no tomorrow, so, for me at least, it looks like I have to plug/unplug the charger to fix it.

Ok, I didn't wait long enough I guess... The battery charge remained at 27% for a long time, and the 'time without signal' eventually went down to 1%. It seems odd though, and rather finicky. It did in fact continue to drain the battery for at least 10-15 minutes before it finally calmed down. I'd rather plug it into the USB/Charger for 30 seconds to avoid the battery draining, but I'll run some more tests to verify.

So, my wife's Droid Eris came up with the 2.1 OTA update notification Sunday. It's pretty funny, since I went out of my way to get 2.1 on my phone because Verizon was taking so long. Go figure. At least I have root now, and she doesn't. lol

But, she also has the same issue with the "time without signal 50%". I threw my app on her phone, and the fix (airplane on, charge for 25 seconds, airplane off) worked on her stock 2.1 phone.

Updated to V3 from V2 since OTA will never come for my situation. Working well EXCEPT for the dreaded silent call issue. Happened right after a caller not in my contacts called. Hung up, then tried calling an often-dialed number in my contacts and it went silent, like it's done in V2. Some others have posted that they believe its triggered by outside, non-contact-listed callers. Oh well--I'll just live with it and move on.

Now that you're on v3, you can take your phone to Verizon for a replacement, no questions asked (because the important software numbers are identical). I highly recommend it because: 1. it will most likely solve your silent call issue, and 2. you'll have a rootable phone (1.5>OTA instead of the leak).

Thanks---I think I'll try that. Our local Verizon store is pretty helpful. I guess they don't have any Erises with 2.1 pre-installed yet. That would be the best solution.

I'll keep you all posted about what happens.

If they ask about your software, just say "it appeared on my phone this week," and tell them you already tried a factory reset and the bug occurred before you even reinstalled any apps. (That will save you from dealing with their B.S.)

Is this repeatable 100% of the time ? If not, the store may be hesitant to replace it for an issue that doesn't exist (as far as they can see).

That said, I wish my phone had a valid reason to swap it out.

Finally, anyone who does swap their phone, I'd suggest not letting the store set it up. There's that possibility that when they power the phone on, it falls into the "upgrade to 2.1 via OTA" category and odds are, they'll do it. Of course, you'll have to wait longer...

Just need a fix to this. Don't think it is a bug. When I open my bookmarked pages, some of them are so tiny. I need to pinch and zoom everytime while others are perfect fit to screen.. They were all working perfectly until the OTA. Everything else is great except for this. Any fixes in settings? My eyes are getting old. Don't need the xtra strain.

That's exactly what happened to me. I couldn't replicate the silent call issue in the store so they just noted that in my customer file and said to hang on for any patches. If it got worse, they said to bring it in but. they wouldn't replace on the spot.

ugh.

I feel really bad for you guys. When I called customer service and explained the problem and what I had already tried (hard reset, no apps), they immediately sent out a replacement.

HEY I'm on lunch and don't have time to seach. DOes anyone else have a problem with gmail not pushing now? I have to manually refresh. I checked sync settings and google Is checked. How do I remedy this? thanks

The only things I've seen which cause Gmail not to sync are:

1. Make sure you have both "Background data" and "Auto-sync" checked in Settings>Accounts & sync.

2. If you're using a task killer, either stop using it, or make sure both Gmail and Google Talk are excluded from being killed.

3. Restart the phone and try again, because if the Google Talk service (which handles Gmail push) was killed, it might not come back on its own until reboot.

I can call up the camera.
I can take video and save it.

I can take a photo. But as soon as the photo is taken, and still on the screen, it locks up.

I can't hit HOME, Back, Menu.

If i hit the Red button, it closes my phone, and when I unlock, the camera is unfrozen, but the photo is not saved.

Anyone else having this issue?

Same thing happens if i try using GoogleGoggles.
