GMail Contacts Sync How Cool Is That?

I never realized Gmail worked in real time with the handset as long as you have a Gmail account loaded on it. When I did a contact sync from my Storm2 to Gmail then back to the Incredible it took all of my last name/ first name contacts listed on the storm by last name and converted them to first name / last name in the Inc . I had a little time on my hands today so i figured I would go to Gmail and change all my contacts to Last/First so when I get my new EVO and I do a sync I don't have them all screwed up like they are on the Inc. So once I finished I figured I would have to delete all my contacts on the Inc and re connect and sync them to Gmail again..NOT they all automatically changed by wire through the Gmail account in real time, now my Inc is also fixed to last/first how great is that system.;)

FWIW, you can change the way a contact's name is displayed from the phone itself. If you go to people and choose a contact, select that contact and hit menu then edit you can then press on the contact's name. Just under their last name there is an option for Display name (you may need to hide the keyboard). If you select that you have the option to display the contact as first name last name or last name first name.

In other words
People > contact > menu > edit > contact > name > display name
can give you similar results without having to adjust anything in Gmail.

I assume this only works with one contact at a time?

I am floored at how well this system works! This is my first smartphone so it was all new to me. I individually entered all of my contacts into my gmail account. It took a while but I spent time entering a lot of info I didn't have (birthdays, emails addy's, profile pictures, etc). Now, everything is perfectly synced and I don't have to back it up.

I did a full system reset last night to fix an account problem. When it came back on, I had lost all of my app's, settings and data - but my people instantly synced back up and I didn't loose any of that info.

I also love how it 'pushes' the email to the phone. Like a text message, I get an instant notification the moment an email is received. Before getting this phone, I thought I would need to set up a send/receive schedule to stay current. I didn't know it does it instantly all the time!
