So about 5 minutes ago everything on my sd card just deleted itself. All my backups, all my music. everything. All my pictures. Everything. This bites assholes. Anyway i can get this stuff back? The phone just keeps saying " sd card safe to remove. sd card blank" I know i didnt format it. So what gives?

EDIT: looks like the sd card just crapped out. tried it in my roomates droid x, same messages. Looks like i get to go to the verizon store and get a new sd card..whoopee!

EDIT EDIT: well the verizon reps are utterly useless. "uhh...the cards arent covered under warranty. your gonna have to shell out 70 bucks for a new card. that or take it up with sandisk. k thx bai!" assholes!

My droid x did the same to 3 SD cards before I just asked verizon to replace it. Your verizon reps aren't right btw, b/c i had different reps in 2 stores replace my cards with no questions asked, other than just checking to make sure it really was corrupted. Try a diff store?

New droid x hasn't done it since, and I'm running all the same apps and such.

Sorry to hear this has happened, but it reminds us of the need to backup our sd cards to a computer once in a while. It is very easy to do, Create a new folder on your Computer. Then connect the DX to the USB port on a computer via the charger cord. Select "mass storage" from the drop down on the DX. Then, in Windows Explorer on the computer, open the the drive letter called "removable drive"... select all, then right click to copy to your new folder on the computer. Only takes a minute or two and will be very much appreciated if you get this unfortunate experience.

Do any of you have an adapter so that you can try plugging the card into a computer to see if there is anything there that way? Maybe not but just a thought. Backup really is so important.

Edit: Also, I'm sure you've checked this but make sure that you are not in mass storage mode when trying to access the card from your phone or it will think that there's no card there. I know..but still, I can't tell you how many times I've gone to do tech support and they just forgot to plug it in. Never hurts to suggest basics.

I did try to plug it into my computer using an SD card adapter. Get a popup telling me to format the card. I click yes to format and it says that it is unable to.

I went ahead and replaced the card.

Well, this kind of say "format error" problem happen here and there with external removable media. It asked you to format and won't let you do. There are many possible reasons such as you are used to directly plug in or plug it out thus it became corrupted etc. When you met this kind of problem. Firstly, try restart your computer and connect your card again as this may help clean the buffer, see if the removable drive can be detected and accessed. If still failed, then probably the external is corrupted. But do not try format it right away if you have some important data, use some recovery utility like Recuva to recover them (maybe not 100%). Then format it with a strong format tool. Note: you may be unable to format it normally so you have to rely on this kind of format software such as HP Format Tool. I hope those will help. Regards.

This happened to me before and I found this program called Active UNDELETE 7 that worked wonders. Did a scan that took a couple of hours but it was able to recover about 90% of what was on my card, especially pictures.

I would recommend giving this a shot if you really want your info back. Hope it helps!

yeah microsd cards aren't exactly the pinnacle of durability. They get used frequently and heavily and eventually just die out.

Good news is, check on amazon, they're not outrageously expensive.

I got a 16GB on eBay in April for $24.99. Currently this is listed:

SanDisk 16GB MicroSD / MicroSDHC / TF Flash Memory Card | eBay
