ok so i am a total neebie to android fones and have been doing some research and am really sorry if i missed the thread that this question was posted in if this is a repost. So i'm thinking about rooting my fone (not a neebie to linux) but if you root and then un-root can you then get the fone past the warranty people if something goes haywire with your fone thanks for any help

If you are running the official 2.1 you can't root it. If you are still on 1.5, you can Root, and then flash the official release and be unrooted in about 10 minutes.

ok but will the fone pass warranty inspection. and would i be better using like fresh 2.1 or the offical 2.1 be better

I've heard rumors of rooted phones passing the warranty inspection. I'm sure with the official eclair build it would be fine...

As for Rooted with fresh or the official, I go root all the way. It removes the sprint useless apps and gives you many more options to customize your phone to your liking.

this may sound like a really dumb question but does the rooted roms get better service than the stock one?? i've heard that they use a new and and imporved radio and i've heard really good things about fresh

If you flash a radio, your service can improve... There is some risk involved in flashing a radio, though. There is a chance you could brick your phone.

If i am rooted and running fresh 2.0 and want to update to sprints official 2.1 (I know I lose root)
But I am going to sell it anyway.
If I follow the steps on sprint's website will it brick my phone or normally update it without messing it up.
Also if that doesn't work I have a nandroid backup of 1.5 that I can put up can someone help?

I believe you just run the official 2.1 from sprint, and you're good to go. Unrooted, with 2.1

ok so i decided to go with using fresh pre- kitchen and fresh 2.1.1 rom. Now i want to overclock my fone. I've heard good things about setcpu but is there other options or a better one out there i should know about and where would be a good place to find them. I have been looking for setcpu but haven't found a copy yet maybe i'm just blind or don't know the name of the file i'm looking for
