K9 Email questions

In no particular order:
  • What does "expunge" do - as near as I can tell, no matter how I've tried to use it, it's a totally useless button. . .
  • Sometimes after email has been received in K9, and then deleted from the server by my computer email client, K9 will remove the email from the K9 inbox like it should BUT it will still display a message count as if the message(s) are still there. In other words, the mail box might be empty, but K9 will indicate that there are messages in the inbox. How do you "clear" this message count, short of simply deleting the account and re-entering it again??
  • How do you move messages to another folder? I see the option to do so, but don't understand how to make it work?
Too bad there isn't any documentation. . .

1. expunge doesn't seem to do anything on gmail accounts. Not sure if it works on other types

Sort of answering my own questions here, but "expunge" seems to be only available to IMAP accounts.

2. polling usually clears this for me.

Nothing short of deleting the account and starting over clears it for me . . . (I have 2 email accounts setup - both POP accounts) I have since deleted the app entirely and then reinstalled it - lets see if that helps.

3. long touch message, select move and then select the folder you want to move it to.

That isn't available to me: When I long touch on a message, the only options available are; Open, Select, Delete, Forward, Reply All, Reply, Mark as unread, Add star, Forward (alternate). . . . Thanks though for the reply!

Move may (1) only be in the newer (27xx) versions or (2) may only work on IMAP accounts. I just double checked and it worked for me. But, I am using 2707 with IMAP accounts.

Expunge is indeed only for IMAP (but it still doesn't seem to override Gmail's IMAP settings).

The Unread counter can be a tough one to trace down. I have had a few times where messages on the server were stuck as unread (but not in the INBOX any longer). And I have had the case that you described where deleting and recreating the account was the only way to make it go away.

This is really annoying. If I move messages on an IMAP account, they are moved in K-9, but not on the Server; K-9 gives no warning or error message in this case. There's no "rebuild index" in K-9. Do I really have to delete and recreate the whole account every time I log in? This really a showstopper. The authors of K-9 should remove the "Move to other folder" option is it messes up synchronity with the server.
However, still better than the preinstalled mail app which crashes with every 2nd e-mail.
Anybody out there knowing of a working IMAP client? I will pay €20 to the first one giving me a hint.

Milestone, Android 2.1

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but if I move a message using K9, it moves on the server.

I just had a message in inbox, I moved it to a folder I have called "car" and just when on my desktop program and the folder was no longer in inbox, but now was in car.

Is that not what you are talking about?

What I don't like is that the message is also retained locally in the "car" folder. So, my "car" folder on K9 only has messages I moved into it from K9 and my "car" folder in my desktop client has all messages in "car" the "car" folder.

I don't quite follow this one, but (1) no messages are stored locally, the "header" may still be there, but there shouldn't be any local messages and (2) you may need to refresh the local folders to see changes

Ok, maybe it's just the header that's there. Still, I'd rather that not show since I only sync my inbox. I really only want to "see" messages that are in my inbox.

Not that big of a deal really, especially, if it's not taking up much same.

Same thing with deleting messages. I have a long list of messages in my trash in K9. If I empty the trash in K9, it empties the server trash, which I don't necessarily want to do.

I'd love a "delete off device only" option. I think that'd let me help keep things cleaner.

I tried moved the mails with K9 from one IMAP folder on the server to another; in K9 the operation appeared to be successful, the mails were visible in the other IMAP folder; however, they were not moved when I looked from another client from a PC, or through webmail, on the same IMAP folder. I think that the "header cache" of K9 was out of sync. The refresh changed nothing.
My mailserver is imap.univie.ac.at

I think something in the latest version of K9 is having issues w/ IMAP folders. I've noticed that when I delete an email it's staying in the inbox, but when I go look in the trash it is there also, but it's still tagged as being in the inbox also. For some reason K9 isn't archiving the email's correctly. This was working just fine till the latest update.
