EVO 4G reviewed "Not nearly as zippy as the Incredible" :)

Every person that has had the EVO to play with or test so far in the EVO forums has commented on 2 things. Just how sweet the big screen is and how lightning fast it is.

I'll wait for some additional reviews to see what they say.

Until then, I'm sure all the Incredible Fan Boys and Girls will enjoy trying to run down the EVO. ;)

Kind of sad, remember it's a "cell phone" people.

Same internals, I wonder what might be slowing down the evo.

funny you said same internals. i work at a radio shack, and our sprint rep stopped by today. i had asked him if he had an Evo to show us, and he said unfortunately not. i mentioned to him i had the Evo's little brother, the Incredible, and he said the Evo is way better, a totally different phone. i lost all respect for the guy when i heard him say that. it's bad that reps have no idea what they are talking about. he goes on to say that the Evo has 2 cameras and a kickstand. i just laughed because to me both of these are pointless.

i told him the phones are very very similar. same processor, same o/s, same camera, and so on.

The incredible has the capabilites, but for some reason, you cant film in 720p. You can on the EVO. It's purely a software limitation that will most likely be enabled with 2.2

the Evo doesn't have an internal memory like the Inc does, correct? if not, i'd say the Inc is more capable of HD video than the Evo. if the Evo is forced to write the HD video to an SD card then it'll need to be a class 6 SD card or the 720p HD video will have to be a very low bitrate. im sure our internal memory is just as fast if not faster than a class 6 sd card.

im not sure how sd classes work, but I have been told the maximum write spead is equal to class 2's read spead. So even if you had class 6 or 10 you can only write so fast.

i don't much of anything about recording to SD cards but i do know that if the 720p video the phone is recording isn't a decent bitrate then it's pretty pointless. here is an article that explains a little but about HD video and bitrates. Don't believe the low bit-rate 'HD' lie | ZDNet

here is a little excerpt from it, this is the part that matters:

"Standard definition 480i DVD movies are typically 5 to 8 mbps (megabits per second) MPEG-2 whereas these so-called HD wannabes weigh in at a pathetic 1.5 to 4 mbps of 720p H.264. Apple’s new HD service is capable of 4 mbps which simply isn’t enough to be considered HD. XBOX360 downloads are 6.8 mbps 720p VC-1 so they’re semi-decent borderline HD. Marketing will push the nicer sounding “720p” aspect of the video but they don’t tell you it’s way too compressed to offer good video fidelity. Blu-ray has a maximum bit-rate of 40 mbps while HD DVD offers a maximum of 28 mbps. Over the air broadcasts can be up to 19.38 mbps."

obviously this is talking about HD movies, and we shouldn't expect the same quality as a hollywood movie. but still, if it's only going to be 2mbps, even 4mbps, then it's not worth it.

ok, supposedly the 720p HD video is going to be around 5mbps. not sure how that works on an SD card, but i know nothing about writing to SD cards.

"Bigger isn’t better everywhere, however. The cameras—the front and the back—are disappointing based on the initial stuff I’ve shot, quite frankly. The 720p video is solid proof resolution isn’t everything. The bitrate is around 5 megabits per second, so there’s not a lot of data in that video. (By comparison, the 720p video pumped out by the T2i is around 45 Mbps.)"

Looks like the supremacy of the Incredible remains as the #1 smartphone. The EVO 4g has been reviewed and as stated is "not nearly as zippy as the Incredible"

Funny 'cause Engadget says it's "one of the best smartphones ever made."

HTC EVO 4G review -- Engadget

I still plan on getting an Incredible because I just really don't need all the extra stuff on the EVO, but that doesn't mean it isn't a spectacular device. Honestly, the fanboyism is tiring and takes way too much space on these boards.

HTC Incredible is the best phone on Verizon. HTC EVO 4G will be the best phone on Sprint. Apple iPhone is the best phone on AT&T. Google Nexus One is the best phone (imo) on Tmobile.

I'm just happy to be on Verizon's network. It's by far the best network in the US. I wouldn't want to switch to any other network.
