Froyo 2.2 on the Incredible?

I was lookin around on the internets and found this article on Android version 2.2, Froyo

Anyone have any idea how long it'll take for us HTC Sensers to get this update? It seems like a pretty major one, and an exciting one too. It also adds Flash 10.1 (fully funtional), USB tethering, and addresses fragmentation issues.

HTC better get off their butts and start workin!

I doubt it will take HTC long to update sense, but you can rest assured that Verizon will test the sh!t out of 2.2 before they officially release it.

It will be extremely easy for us.
1. Wait for Froyo 2.2 to be released
2. Wait for Incredible to be rooted
3. Wait for someone to create custom (or leaked) Froyo 2.2 ROM for Incredible
4. Follow rooting and flashing instructions and flash your Incredible

That's it - unless you take the other route which is this:

1. Wait for HTC/Verizon to release Froyo 2.2 OTA update to Incredible.

I switched over from an iphone because I thought Android would be more "open". When I bought my Incredible I didn't know it has a custom UI and that it would take months to update to newer versions of Android.

Just a little disappointed.
It isn't like the other Verizon Android devices are upgraded any speedier than the HTC ones.
It is the manufactures that have to create the updates for Verizon - but I assume that high priority and flagship phones are at the top of the list. If the Incredible is a hot item when Froyo hits, then perhaps we'll see a reasonably timely release (yeah, right ;) )

So you did zero research on the nearly $600 device you bought? I sense many more complaints from you in the near future.

They still seem to be more frequent than iPhone and definitely more frequent than Blackberry updates.

What does the 2.2 update have to do with being open? Nothing. It is an open platform, we have apps that would never be approved by apple or other platforms. Thats what being open is all about. Being open is not about the speed at which updates are pushed. Being open is all about what is ALLOWED on the platform.

Return it for a Droid

Or you can stay with a more current piece of hardware... you bought a BRAND NEW phone, what did you expect? Did you really think it would be rooted the day it came out? If you are coming from an iPhone then you should be used to getting updates once a year, it's only a few months here. I am not seeing the problem.

lol, I don't really know of any iPhone users (previous or current) that DON'T complain about something constantly..

Well then allow me to chime in. I switched from my iPhone 3gs in November and picked up a MOTO Droid. I had unlocked all of my iPhoneS and I rooted my Droid. Switching to Android was the best decision I could have made. And I love the sense UI. I don't mind waiting a little longer for the update.

Good for you. You are definitely the minority son. I can't get my one friend that has an iPhone to even recognize Android as a worthy competitor.

Um,,, $200 with the contract.;)

As I said I am just a little disappointed. It's like buying a Dell then having a new Windows come out but having to wait for months for Dell to let me upgrade.

I guess what I'm saying is HTC should have had 2.2 beta and have the upgrade already done or close to it.

I'm not an Apple fanboy/whiner it just seems a little backwards compared to what I'm used to.

I can assure you HTC has had the 2.2 Beta, probably even the alpha. They are Google's biggest pushers so the relationship is pretty close. It's a matter of making sure they can deliver it to their flagship phones the Incredible and the EVO in a reasonable amount of time.

The benchmarks from the N1 make it seems like 2.2 is actually no BS 2-5x faster.
