Anyone Else Feel Messed With?

I love the Hero. It's frustrating - but with Sprint I have a phone that makes calls, I can multitask, and with 2.1 - it works even better now. And the battery life has only improved since I've bought it.

BUT.

It's kind of hard to ignore the fact that the day 2.1 is officially released for the HTC Sprint Hero - is the same day that 2.2 is "unveiled."

The one thing I really wanted was the ability to launch apps from my SD card without having to root.

Oh well. I think I'll just root 2.1 once that happens.

But do any other Hero owners feel a tad bit messed?

yea i can see the frustration, but it really doesnt bother me. I dont really have enough stuff on my phone yet that i really need to run something off the sd card, so it isnt an issue YET for me. keep in mind ive only been running 2.1 for the better part of an hour or so

I am happy with the update. The problem with techology today is that you cannot keep up with it. There will always be something better, bigger, and faster right around the corner. Just enjoy what you have until your next phone upgrade.

I wonder how long before the people who buy the EVO start complaining that they don't have 2.2 on their phones.

It will probably be the first email they send from the new phone, to Sprint & HTC, asking how long they expect them to wait for an upgrade.

People sure don't stay satisfied very long.

I'm not saying I'm not satisfied - but I do feel a bit like Charlie Brown and the football. It's doubtful the Hero will ever get 2.2 - seeing as how long it took to get 2.1. And I do feel the memory is extremely restrictive.

The tiny amount of memory for app installation has always been my chief complaint with Android. Sadly, I didn't realize this was a limitation when I bought the Hero. They don't exactly advertise it - and I figured, if this was something I could do on my Treo - surely I could do it on an Android.

Nope. Like my Hero with the 1.5. Does more than I need and I knew what I was buying with no promises. I guess the 2.1 will be nice but it will have problems too. I'll upgrade to something else later by the end of the year. The EVO, well we see what everyone here has to say about it. TC

Does this basically reset your phone like a factory reset? I'm sick of this stupid phone. I waited all this time for an update and then we get this crap.

I do feel messed with by HTC and Sprint. When I bought the Hero, I actually thought (erroneously) that this kind of screw up would be avoided because updates would be coming from Google.

It's put me off of HTC and Sprint.

The update seems a little rough, too, which gives me further pause.

EVO now holds no interest for me. (Subject to change depending on how pricing actually plays out, how it performs [preliminary reviews are lukewarm], and whether or not I've decided to forgive HTC and Sprint for this fustercluck.)

This is more than just an update, it upgrades the OS. Yes it resets your phone to the way it was when new. But for the increase in speed it is worth it, not to mention all the new apps that are available for the 2.1. Maybe you should just get a flip phone and call it a day. Everyone complained about waiting for the upgrade, now its here your complaining because you got to do a little work to get it. After spending several hours resetting my phone to where I want it, it runs flawless, everything works, and was well worth the wait. Have a great day.

Aww boohoo guys. Not to long ago there was no such thing as a free update. Manufacturers never promised anyone updates when most of you bought the phone. Man up, and quit crying, or I'm calling the waahmbulance.

Yeah, you don't have to be a jerk. I barely use the phone part so I need more than a flip phone. It's just stupid that this is the only update on the market right now that requires resetting your whole damn phone. Oh, and it's a LOT of work, not a little.

I wasnt being a jerk, just scarcastic. This is not the only phone that requires a full reset, anytime you upgrade the OS it will have to be done. It's really not that bad. I'm sorry if you took my post the wrong way...Do the upgrade, after a few hours of resetting you will be happy you did.

Um... dude. Most phones that give out free os overhauls require a complete wipe. So do full blown computer systems.

No need to complain so much about 2.2. The best part of 2.2 is already available on the Hero. Not Flash, who really needs flash ads on their phone? No, the best part of 2.2 is JIT and you can enable it and all it's speedy goodness if you are rooted.

Hey, I have no more beef with my phone now with the update. Youtube works, I haven't had any MMS issues, I got some new bells and whistles that I really could have cared less about getting, and now we have several other things fixed. Why worry about 2.2? To have the NEWEST thing?

Honestly, I don't think our phones will be completely capable of running 2.2. 2.1 is where I think ours draws the line in the dirt.

I imagine some of the stuff would not be able to run on the Hero - but others, like running apps off of the SD card - should be doable. That's a matter of encryption, not processing power, right?

Actually - I'm now just hoping that HTC issues a maintenance release to address some of the issues people are having with 2.1. That, I think - is at least likely.

I for one am noticing dramatically improved battery life on 2.1. As long as I can keep it from staying awake... all will be good. And I'm sticking with the hero for now, because the Evo is just too big.

It does it decently. If you're using anything that plays back music though, typing is really choppy, I'm not going to lie. It's all about the hardware at this point I think. Still helluva lot better than my old phone, and it's usable 24/7 unlike my old Moment, so I'm still WELL over satisfied with it. It makes calls, it does text messages, I can edit and submit my school stuff through my phone, heck, if it wasn't for the screen size, I could use this as a basic computer replacement if need be for a few days.

On topic though, it multi-tasks decently. Not as well as the newer phones, but it still does it fluently enough to transition easily from task to task.

Boy there sure are some whiny babies around here. If you didn't want to lose all of your precious data, than you should have NOT UPDATED because the updates specifically said IT WILL ERASE ALL OF YOUR DATA.

This is one of the big selling points of the Evo. Not only does it have the memory and processor to multi-task, but it can be online using the 4g connection while simultaneously making a phone call.

The Evo is also roughly the size of a small raft, which is good if you find yourself stranded at sea. Where it will continue to make calls and check email at the same time...
