Whats with ERIS and not being able to tell if your sent message has been received? Besides having delivory reports sent to you because who the hell wants extra notifications, especially when you send 100 txt messages a day. The reason for the question is my friends phone was dead and I sent a few extra messages and I had no idea...... any ideas?

yeah, on dumbphones you used to see the checkmark meaning its sent...kind of ******ed that the built in app doesn't have this feature....

plus, IMO, handcent just sucks. same with chomp. i just hate the bulky feeling interface, and i 100% HATE those stupid ass chat bubbles. this isn't meant to look like some new age iphone bullshit and/or new AIM style thing. and when you change it to non-bubbles, it's so cluttered and terribly ugly. handcent/chomp have great features, but horrible UI's. the stock one is plain and simple with a great UI, but it doesn't have ANY features.

ugh, someone come along and make a damn good messaging app please? and don't make it all slow like chomp/handcent. grr.

I remember way back I had the LG VX8100 (best phone EVER) http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/July2005/VX8100.gif

It would only give you the sent check mark after the recipient opened the message. Not just when it arrived to their phone. (think it only worked on Verizon to Verizon though....)
But every phone after that just let you know that the message had arrived.

Sucks that we cant have that feature anymore....

agree with jayocs, delivery reports are more messages being sent to your phone = more notifications = pain in the ass, and CHOMP and SMS you can't tell if the messages are recieved. this phone is way to advanced not to have the check mark

Again with this checkmark thing, I've never seen a phone with that feature before. I'll have to look at some of my friends dumbphones. Because I have no idea what your talking about.

Anyhow, what I've seen to work is enabling Delivery Reports in the options. Then a envelope icon will appear next to each of your messages that you send. If you hold on the message, you can select view report in the popup menu. Then another popup shows and says pending and then after about 30 seconds its says "received". Seems to be what your looking for. Its more looking through menu's, but to be honest, why do you need to know if he received it or not? He's going to receive it eventually. Even if it is a few hours from now. SMS's =/= instant messages.

.

It's true :D
and also, when i used to check my sent messages, then checked message info(I think that's what that option was)
It would say:
Message delivered: 4:56pm
Message read: 4:57pm...

It was great!

For non verizon customers it would just say the delivered time.

What was great about it? You get a notification if the send failed, which means if you didn't get it the message was received.

Getting a notice that a message was opened is not the same as saying it was read and comprehended. Notifications like that are almost the same as trying to control other people. It is one of the first options in email programs that I turn off.

LOL... I guess it depends on who you are dealing with.
Sometimes you might text someone something and not get a response...
Before i used to know for a fact that they read the message. So at least I wasn't wondering if they had read it.
Now, who knows? Maybe they left their phone at home. Maybe its in silent and they dont realize they have a message...
same reason you might request delivery confirmation when sending something in the mail. So you know for sure it was received...

Generally, if someone doesn't respond, I don't sit there and wonder if they will ever respond back. Because if they don't respond, its either they don't have anything to say about it, or they have not read the message. If its urgent and need a response ASAP, I end up calling them.

And if your wondering why it does not have this feature (or at least isn't up front about it), is because the OS is not designed by Verizon, unlike dumbphones like those LG's. Its by Google and HTC. They don't redesign the apps from the ground up specifically for each phone like Verizon does.
