Note 9! What have you heard?!

I was gonna hold off and wait for the 10, but my work is giving me the opportunity to get a 9 as a coworker lost his note4. So they're gonna get me a 9 and give my 8 to that guy (since I work IT backup and support, I usually get to play with new toys for evaluation). I'll still be able to upgrade to the 10 next year, so all good for me here.

Only thing I'm kinda worrying about is getting an ugly pen LOL.

I always get the black version of the phone, so who knows what color the pen will be as they show this urine-yellow pen included with a blue model phone.

A dual wireless charger!

https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-wireless-charger-duo-charges-both-galaxy-note-9-galaxy-watch/

I would love to get an upgraded smartwatch from my Huawei Watch, which has been on my wrist for years. But I will not buy a Tizen device, simply because there's no developer support for it. Why Samsung stubbornly put Tizen on it and not Wear OS is beyond me - I guess they don't want to sell watches.

EDIT: Does anyone besides me find humor in the tech blog 'experts' who predict that the Note9 is the last Note, and the Galaxy lines will be merged together, etc.? These are the same 'experts' who emphatically stated that the Note line was doomed by the Note 7 disaster and Samsung was killing off the line...

Ok, so what if I just got the Note 8. My wife would love it as a hand me down ;) So what all have you heard about the Note 9 - is it going to be the phone of the century!?

Honestly I see it being pretty much the same as the Note 8 but with a slightly (but in real world not noticable) bigger screen and processor. Honestly until Samsung master the flexible screen so we could unfold a phone to the size of a tab or pc the whole bigger phone every year has plateaued. Long time before that happens though as they'll just get sued by Apple for coming up with it first. I suppose there's also the chance Levi start making their pockets bigger.

I know that, appearance-wise, it will look almost exactly like the Note8 and with good reason: Samsung is holding back a lot of stuff for next year's 10th Note. But I'm hearing a lot of encouraging things about under-the-hood improvements, as well as a complete overhaul of the S Pen, which is piquing my interest more and more. Three months ago, I was pretty much "meh" on the Note9 - now I've ordered three cases for it, because I'm increasingly confident that it will be enough of an upgrade to purchase it.

With all of Forbes click bait headlines leading up to the Note 9 release, I really do not know what to believe from them. However this article (https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordon...price-cost-camera-galaxy-s10-s9/#5f912e4732d7) is based on an article from The Bell (translated link: https://translate.google.com/transl.../ArticleView.asp?key=201807190100036160002302 ).
Basically this is stating "As the Galaxy S Plus model and Galaxy Note are almost similar in product characteristics, the claim that the two products should be unified into a single cost reduction should be constantly raised inside the IM division". The Bell states that the fate of the Galaxy Note range largely depends on customers’ response to the Galaxy Note 9. If sales are underwhelming, then the writing is on the wall.

Forbes and CNET have fallen SO far... reduced to clickbait articles with multiple headlines to grab extra spots in news aggregator apps. I don't think it's fair for the Note9 to be the metric for the survival of the line, because it's an incremental update from the Note8. If anything, I would think that the Note10 would be the oracle - Samsung is deliberately holding features back for the 10th Note. It's difficult to believe that they would dump all that.

That said, I can almost understand if Samsung wants to combine the models into a single annual Galaxy release, as long as they retain the S Pen on the top model. There is just too much passion and demand from power users who understand the S Pen and want that extra functionality.

Evan Blass, aka @evleaks, has tweeted out an official press render of the Note9 in three colors: black, blue and brown!

Only click if you really want to see it!

@dontpanicbobby I don't know! And all I can find is that it will be held somewhere in New York City... perhaps an 'undisclosed location' to prevent fruit phone thugs from storming the building? LOL

Anyway - the big news of the day is that Samsung has released three mini videos on its YouTube channel, promising an end to some problems we can all relate to...

More stuff!

I don't know what sources Tom's Hardware is using for this, but apparently Samsung may be secretly planning an almost immediate launch after the Unpacked Event on August 9th. As in 'within a week'!

https://www.tomsguide.com/us/galaxy-note-9-release-date,news-27672.html

What do you think about this? Could we be in possession of the Note9 by the middle of August? I'd like to think so - but it seems to me that, if this was the case, carrier employees would have leaked the inventory plans by now...

BTW I saw a very short and worthless article about the upcoming Note9 assistant. Or, rather, more. Looks like Bixby 2.0 is going to be the entire user interface! It's reportedly going to be called Bixby AI UX and will integrate Bixby deeply into every aspect of the phone. Let's see what that will do!

And don't give me the 'I don't want that, I value my privacy!' bit... if you actually read the Samsung terms and conditions, you'll know you gave that quaint notion up a long time ago...

I'm really still on the fence with this one, I have no complaints with my Note 8 and it's still fault free but I bought it last year on Samsung's upgrade program, so I will be eligible for a Note 9, but I would have to send my Note 8 back and start the contract over.

One thing that is bugging me is that the 12 month upgrade window is next month (around the 15th September when the Note 8 was released) and I would probably have missed any pre order goodies that may come with the Note 9.
Or I just keep the Note 8 for another 12 months and it's mine!
Decisions Decisions!

Does anyone besides me find it intellectually dishonest for the tech world to talk about Samsung selling the Note9 as the first 1 Terabyte phone, like that's a real thing?

The basis for this is the rumored specification of 512 GB internal storage, with a microSD capacity of another 512 GB. The only problem is that there is NO SUCH THING as a 512 GB microSD card - the highest capacity card currently on the market is 400 GB by SanDisk. Unless Samsung is secretly planning on announcing a half-terabyte card Thursday, I think it's very disingenuous.

FOUR DAYS TO GO!

I believe that having more color options would attract more people's interest though
I've never really understood the hoopla over the color of the Samsung phones once they started making them with glass backs. Most folks slap a case on them and never see that beautiful phone's color again! The only sign of it remaining is the s-pen.

Thanks to @bishopkc99 for the tip - a Reddit thread with a few more details. Apparently the Note9 pre-orders will come with either the Fortnite credits or a set of AKG noise canceling headphones. Good!

EDIT: Now I'm reading that the AKG headphones will be available in Europe... but United States phones will get a set of Gear IconX earbuds. If you read my thread on THOSE stupid things, you'll understand why I'm not thrilled about this news.
