How is the note 8 holding up after 1 year?

I was thinking of upgrading from my LG G4 to the note 8, so I was wondering if there are any major issues (like fast battery drainage, overheating...etc) with it after using for around 1 year. I tend to keep my smartphone for 3-4 years minimum, especially since its still so expensive.

Nope - mine was getting sluggish, but I cleared my call log and purged old SMS threads to clean it up a bit. It's rockin' and rollin'! And it's so much fun to use in our community pool, or use Samsung Pay at credit card terminals without mobile payment options... "My iPhone can't do that!" You're right... it can't!

Absolutely no perfomance issues with mine over time. I use the weekely reboot which seems to help with general performance.

I don't actually use fast charging though. It will charge from 10% in 3 hours without it goven a decent charger so I just overnight it.
Generally I do this nightly but can go 2 days if I am not playing a lot of video.

So far, everything is running great. Not a fan of the glass, seems to have scratched too easy, IMO.

My glass hasn't scratched... but it has tiny micro-cracks along the edge from a fall in our driveway (it landed face down, of COURSE). It's not enough to justify the expense of a screen replacement, but it's still a symptom of Gorilla Glass 5. I understand that #5 is great protection from scratches, but it's prone to cracks and shattering. Gorilla Glass 6 is actually some kind of polymer that looks and acts like glass, but is more scratch, crack and shatter-resistant. And it's rumored to debut on the Galaxy Note9.

I agree about the scratches. They're tiny but there. Other than that I have had no issues at all. Be sure to get a good case that will do justice to your very sleek and expensive phone and I think you will be very happy. Most will recommend a rugged case or a waterproof case. I am not hard on my phone so went with a custom wood case. Beautiful and still protecting my phone even though I have dropped it a couple of times over the past year or so.

I see that you are upgrading from an LG G4. I actually used my G4 to get $300 off and free accessories from Samsung Direct when they were running a promo. This is my first Note and I have to say I'm very impressed. The phone hasn't experienced any lag or glitches since it was unboxed. The phone is fast, the cameras are great and for an even better photography experience you can port the Google Pixel camera software for even more options. I can't afford to upgrade to the next big thing every year so I take care of my phones with the intention of using them for several years to come. I regularly clean the cache, history, data, do a soft reset once a week, etc. Even though it has been available, I have not upgraded to Oreo from Nougat. I've been seeing too many complaints on the forums on how Oreo has caused owners so many problems when upgrading. I use my Note regularly swapping it out with my LG V20 for daily driver duties. The two phones compliment each other photography wise with the V20 being good at taking super wide angle shots and the Note 8 handling the zoom/closeups. Now is a good time to purchase the Note with the price reductions since launch. With the Note9 around the corner the prices might even drop further if you can afford to wait.

*shrugs* we are all different, but, i picked up the note 8 on launch and there is absolutely zero scratches or damage on it. i swap between the alcantara back case (which still looks good) and the military grade back cover , and it looks just as it did out of the box. no screen scratches either.

no lag, nothing short of top performance with the shenanigans i put it through weekly. id definitely recommend the note 8....

I'm surprised that you're still using the Alcantara case... mine was crap that, within weeks, had wear spots where my fingers rest. I wrote that thing off and went back to my cheap silicone case. And it's still silicone!

:p

I'm not even thinking about another case, as the information I'm getting has me interested enough in the Note9 that I ordered three cases for it... we'll see in 17 days!

I'm so glad there are no problems, I too can't afford to update my phone every year so I wanted a solid phone.
I have been eyeing this phone since release because I appreciate a phone I can draw on. I will be waiting till the note9 is released for a further price drop, but now I'm so excited to get it.
I too have read forums here about the Oreo problems as well so I'm not sure if I should upgrade to it out of the box or just stick with nougat....
Also I was wondering if there is a specific case and screen protector you would reccomend? (something not too expensive if possible :') )

I stopped using a screen protector when they became redundant around about GG3 and my Note8 has no scratches.

It does have a slight warp in the case at the USB port due to it overheating at some point, my battery only last a day even though I'm not a heavy user and my s pen clicker is a little sticky, in and out of the silo. I like my Note but I wouldn't recommend it, largely because it's old tech now and the new is always too seductive.

Is the overheating you experienced while charging or in general usage? My G4 overheats a lot now so I don't want to experience it again....
If the battery lasts all day it's good enough for me actually since I plug it in while I'm sleeping eitherway.
New is seductive, but I'm still a college student so I can't always afford it unfortunately🙈

There's a slight warp at the USB-C the only time I experience an overheat is when I use a dash am app, which I've stopped doing.

A little tip on the money front; get an accountant, mine pays for everything, best thing u ever did.

I use a Spigen Rugged Crystal case that has worked well. I don't use screen protectors but I hear it can be difficult to find one that fits tbe Note 8 with its curved edges.

I have to say that my suspicions are reinforced every year.

I've long suspected that phone manufacturers have been putting a 'obsolescence sensor' in their phones. When the device detects a growing number of texts, posts and articles about a new phone model, they are programmed to begin an accelerated failure rate... driving owners crazy and straight to the store to replace it with the latest (and most expensive) model.

I have owned Jeanette (my Note8) for less than a year... but as soon as I started looking seriously at the Note9, she went into rebellion. Random freezes, failure of paired devices to connect, and general sluggish behavior. Is it just me, or is it a trend?

I've just replaced this one: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074G1W2RC

It rook 3 minutes to fit including cleaning the screen and fitslike a glove even with my Spigen ToughArmour.

After 7 months the previous one was still as sensitive to touch and pen as day one which is, as far as I could tell, as same as the screen. I just dropped the phoneoff a table and theprotector developped a tiny crack.
A few weeks later it had reached halfway across and I decided to get a replacement.

phone has been running great. however this past week, i started noticing charging issues. such as after doing a usual overnight of charging the device would be fully charged. this isn't the case as of now. seems like either this might be a samsung phone thing in general. ( i recall similar issues with note 4.) OR my charger is starting to take a crap on me.
