Every time I try to install TAP an APK file within ES, I get this error message (bottom message in pic).

HTC One M9 stock rom N7 rooted And ES File Explorer Pro (play store version - paid) has SU grated

I've contacted the dev to no avail

If it works with other file explorers, why not just use one of those? It's not as if there haven't been privacy concerns with ES over the years anyway.

At some point Android changed from having a global "install from unknown sources" option to authorising individual apps to install. I don't know at what point that was because I skipped a few versions, but if your phone has software after that point maybe you need to authorise ES? Though I'd expect it to tell you if that was the problem, rather than it just failing, so I expect that isn't it.

I hadn't heard anything about the Android app security change, probably because it's not related to the Android 7 using the M9 . But thanks anyway. The problem is within the app I believe and not OS related.

I think the poster that mentioned app permission BUT I'm fairly new to root and superSU.

I've never used 7 - I jumped from 5 to 8 (currently 9). But if you have the "install from unknown sources" option in your Settings and have enabled it that should be enough.

But the file explorer doesn't do the installation itself anyway: it invokes the system package installer to do that. So if that works with other file explorers all I can think of is that for some reason ES on your device isn't doing that. If it's trying to use something else to do the installation maybe that's where the problem lies? Just speculating.

That's good speculation. Can we <span style='background-color:#B4B4B4;'>fix</span>
