If you've pre-ordered the Note9, then it's on the way and due around August 24th. So what do you do in the meantime?

    Get ready to move in!

There are several things you can do: I am working on thinning out the photos on my microSD card, just so I can have more storage when I put it into the new phone.

Make sure your existing phone has the Smart Switch app by Samsung - it will allow you to transfer almost everything from your phone to the Note9. Move your microSD card to the Note9.

Make sure you know how your home screens are set up... you will probably need to redo them. Especially the widgets.

You may need to log back into your apps - if you use two-factor authentication for security (I strongly recommend it), you will need to verify the new device.

If you are getting rid of your old phone, make sure you uninstall the apps for which you have a license for x-number of devices. De-authorize the device with apps like Google Play Music and Amazon Prime Video, etc.

When you are confident that you have everything moved over, perform TWO factory resets on the old device. Make sure there is nothing left of YOU on it. Box it up and sell it, trade it, give it... whatever.

    Welcome to the Note9!

You have no idea how much this pissed me off in the past. My trick now is to screenshot each home screen, that way I won't have an OCD panic attack if I got 2 icons misplaced! ;)

So did you order your note yet Chief, or are you still holding out for black? Unfortunately, it seems like it won't be available for quite a while. Maybe during the holidays in Nov or Dec?

Edit: I see you broke down and got the blue one! Don't blame you, that will actually look good with the case you got.

I just cannot afford it. Id love to have it, but no phones are worth that much.

I get that. And I would agree, if all it was is a phone.

However, it's pretty much everything I need, in a device that can fit in my hand: It's got my photos. Files. Movies. Documents. I can plug in an HDMI adapter and BAM! It's my computer. What's not stored locally is in cloud storage. It pays for stuff. I get all my emails and messages with it. If I'm expecting an important call or text, it can come in the pool with me so my exercise schedule isn't interrupted.

In fact, I'm getting my laptop ready to wipe and sell because I simply don't need it anymore. So that offsets the cost of the phone quite a bit (it's a really beast laptop).

I didn't have a lot of confidence that Samsung could put enough improvements in it to warrant my switch from the Note8, which is less than a year old... but they did. I set aside a little bit from every paycheck into a special tech fund, and I use that for my gadgetry. Really, though, with the Samsung Upgrade Program, I'm getting it in 24 payments (I won't need that many) with zero interest and I can trade up to the Note10 next year. Sounds like a winner to me!

if all it was is a phone.

To many people, thats all it is. Its not worth 1K or 1200K for the half terabyte. People have priorities that are more important than upgrading to a phone thats more of a lateral upgrade. The phone should be at best 950 bones.

That said. I’m going to get the half terabyte because I like to have the latest and greatest.

I like the note series. I use it hard and love it, but for me , its not going to replace my bigger screen laptop or my iPad Pro II.

I’m going to walk in to a tmo store on launch and pick up the phone . Dropping 600 down on the half terabyte and paying the rest on JOD with tmo.

The samsung finance is a hard credit pull and whilst it may be attractive, the phone is not worth a HP on my FICO.

The note 9 is a nice phone. Looking forward to it. Some people cant afford it or dont think its worth the money even if they can. Every one has his or her own reasons and I respect them all.

Is there some sort of guide/video/checklist somewhere that is like no brainer, anyone can follow it as a step by step walkthrough on how do people change to a new phone?

If you're moving from a Samsung phone to the Note9, Smart Switch is about as no-brainer as it gets. You open it on both phones (should be pre-installed), set the Note9 as your destination device and the old one as source, connect them when instructed to and just follow the instructions.

So I'm prob going to upgrade from my Pixel XL 2 to the Note 9 in November.

I figured I'd come to the Note 9 corner to talk about this.

What's the best deal you got for the Note9? Would I be niave to think retailers might throw in a Gear Watch to sweeten the deal in a couple of months? Or do you think there could be a Note 9/Tab S4/Watch combo?
