I've been waiting to jump onto the smartphone bandwagon and I just couldn't bring myself to sign up with AT&T for the iphone so I'm extremely anxious for this phone to be released. In fact, I'm switching from Verizon for this phone so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll receive a call from Radio Shack informing me they got their shipment in early...man, the next 2 weeks is going to torture...

Is there any precedent for early release? I mean, has Sprint ever announced one date and then released it early? Even though I've been with them for a long time I've never cared about getting a phone so bad that I needed to have it on the same day. This phone is obviously an exception.

They literally just did that this week with a new Blackberry device. Only time I had seen it though.

Heh, I'm amused by the "girlfriend getting annoyed stories."

Let's see... June 4th, the Evo drops. June 5th, we're leaving to go on a week vacation to Florida. Two days later, I'll be dropping on one knee and giving her a very expensive rock. I think she's going to quickly forget about me and my Evo. :D

I'm tellin her and spoiling the surprise :D

Nervous? I proposed last August...I was 99% sure she'd say yes but was still nervous as hell lol.

Not at all - she knows it's coming, just not when and where.

(Sorry for being off-topic, but this is rather amusing)

Side Story: Her grandmother, who passed away last week, was told about it a few weeks prior. When I sat down to dinner with some family from the West Coast I'd never met, the day after she passed, an Aunt immediately congratulated us. I'm like "wha?" Grandma being herself, blabbed in excitement to the rest of the family! Worst-kept secret but it didn't surprise me. I was/am quite amused.

I proposed to my fiance exactly 1 year ago on vacation in Florida too. Where do you plan on dropping the big question?

Congrats man! I just got married in November. she is the best thing that ever happened to me. She puts up with all of my gadget stuff. She actually likes it when I get new stuff now because she gets all the stuff I don't want anymore.

I told my girlfriend that I would take her out on a very nice date on the night of the 4th to make of for my obsessing over the EVO these next two weeks. Hopefully I can get her hooked on Android. ^_^

My wife only likes flip-phones (she's Japanese and flip-phones are still king in Japan) but I am giving her my Hero on the 4th.

The only touch screen phone she's been even slightly interested in is the iphone so, I'm really hoping I can convert her to Android. Maybe she'll understand my obsession a little?!? Nah, probably not.

As for the original topic, I have never been this antsy about waiting for something in my life! I am seriously thinking about camping out at my local Sprint store starting Thursday evening.

Cute story. At least she got to know before she passed away that her grand daughter was in good hands... Congrats on the wedding plans (hopefully) ;)

They'll receive them about 2 days early, but they have a hard street date so it won't count.

Do cellphones/smartphones have a hard street date though? I mean in terms of like Video games, where that date is set by the Publishing company and thats final?

But in all honesty, I think Sprint wants the release on a Friday, to have the weekend rush too. Unfortunately, next weekend flows into Memorial Day....with people traveling on Friday it would be a bad launch date.

And releasing that Blackberry early made sense though....try and get as much sales out of it before the EVO drops, thats just good business sense.

Thanks all, for the various well wishes!

Indeed, I too was pleased that she got to know, before she passed on. She actually found out because my girlfriend caved during an argument with grandma, about us living together, and grandma's fear that I would have no motivation to take the next step.

In her final week, one of the last things grandma said to me was "why do you have to be so slow???" That's their family humor! :)

Last August, my gal and I left T-Mo & AT&T respectively to merge back onto Sprint, and we both got Pre's. It was her first smartphone and she loves it. No going back to a traditional phone for her!

Since I'm buying without an upgrade (won't be eligible till Aug 1), she figures if the Evo kicks as much ass as it does, that she'll follow suit and snag one come Aug 1st with the upgrade incentive.

Generally yes, but goof-ups still happen. A bunch of people got their Incredibles shipped out several days early.
