How can I stop Gmail using its internal browser to open links inside a Gmail?

I hope I've come to the right place in this Android app to ask this question?

I'm getting quite sick of the intrusive nature of Google into everything I do, that I'm starting to take exception to the way it always uses its own internal browser to open any link addresses within my gmails (I've already dumped Facebook and Twitter) - especially now that it has admitted that it has allowed third-parties to actually read my emails (I mean, can you believe it? I'm now looking for an in-between app that could sit between the keyboard and my emails which will encrypt everything as I bounce backwards and forwards from newly read ones to old ones - encrypting as it goes; does one exist? Could somebody write such an app?)

So my real question is: does anyone know what I can do to the gmail app such that it invoked another browser (and not nessarily chrome! No, never, ever Chrome!). I'm using Gmail native, not the Google email app....

I'm on a Pixel 2 XL using Pie...

I'd be interested in your replies - but if the answer is a 'no' isn't Google violating the same rule that Microsoft got fined over, when it bundled Explorer into its Windows operating system? Shouldn't Margrethe Vestager at the EU be informed?

As a first time user of this app, I look forward to everyone's comments on here

So are you saying that when you use your Gmail app,it automatically opens in the browser?

I'm saying that whenever there is a link reference in a Gmail that I've opened (typically it shows in blue text) - and when I then click onto that link, the Gmail app opens it, using its own internal browser... and when I return from that link it returns back to the gmail whence it came...

I'm using android pie - but I think it does it regardless of operating system - and there is no setting within the Gmail app to allow me to change it...

Well it's a Setting in your Gmail that has an option to open in app and do not open in link. Go to Settings> Apps> Gmail> and make sure you have the default option set to Do not open in link. Now considering that Google has updated has privacy API manifest, It's a strong possibility that that option may be grayed out. Now if that's the case you may need to install another email app on your device because Google has automatically set it's own user settings by default. By installing another email service, it should open Gmail settings to be changed because it has detected another email service on your device. Sounds a little complicated but it's not that's just how Android works

..and following the track of Kbu2's advices..also it could be something as simple as the option clear the default from with in the settings on your phone(exhibits 1)..if the gmail clear default didn't work out for you..

I hope that helps.
