Couldn't find a definite answer for this one:

I have one line with premier member status. I want to buy the Evo when it comes out. Radioshack employee suggested that I can open a 2nd line and get the Evo for $199, and then pay my ETF for my original line. It ends up being a little cheaper for me this way. However, he said that I have to keep BOTH lines open for 60 days or else Sprint will shut me down for fraud.

Can anyone clarify/verify this?

Here what i did for the pre and will be doing again for the EVO
When the phone comes out open a new line. and pay 199.99 for the EVO and get a new phone number well call it (111) 222-2222. Then swap the EVO to your exsistening line well call it (111) 111-1111. and your old phone new line (111) 222-2222. Then about 15-30 days later call sprint and cancel the line you just opened that has your old phone on it. Sprint will charge 200 bucks. so its a total of 400 bucks and you have yoru new evo on your old number.

Also - they said that I wouldn't have to pay a deposit for the new line -- but I thought there was no way to check for that until you actually go through the process of opening the new line?

I just want to be prepared for the Evo launch, and don't want any unexpected surprises :p If I'm $20 short, I'm going to be mad pissed.

we can see if you require a deposit as soon as we open your account. all we have to do is click add line. if they didnt at all get into your account then yes that is made up and they have no idea.

Activation fee for new line? This could add $35.
Paying for service for 2-4 weeks? This could add $30-$60.

In the end your bill for that new line is the $200 early termination plus those charges. I doubt you kept service for 15-30 days and managed to do it for less than $50. You're better off just paying the $450.

activation = zero

paying for service for = add a line for $10 bucks

i did it with the pre and paid 10 bucks extra plus 99 for the pre plus 200 ETF and was gonna do it for the evo, but i just bought a new one on ebay that should be here next week!!!!!!!

plus BB and RS wont let you preorder if you wanna pay the 450. only new lines, new customers, and upgrades are eligible to preorder.

I thought about this with a Touch Pro 2 before and was told that if I cancelled within 30 days, I had to return the phone or pay full price. If I cancelled on day 31, the phone would be mine and I would just have to pay the ETF.

You could buy the EVO on the 2nd line and move the EVO to your primary line. On day 31, cancel the 2nd line and pay the ETF.
