Keep apps open and in recently used list?

On my new phone, a Moto Z² Force Edition running Oreo, apps disappear from the 'recent' list BUT they're not actually closing...they're in limbo somewhere!

Say that I'm using the NextDoor app, and I leave it on a particular post. Some time later, after using other apps, I scroll the recent list but NextDoor is not there. I have no choice but to launch it from the app drawer; when it opens it's right where I left it, instead of going to the log in screen as would happen if it had actually closed and then restarted.

On my previous phone, apps stayed in the recent list until I closed them; that's what I want on my new phone. I'm halfway there because they're not closing...but they're not conveniently accessible either. What setting(s) am I missing?

Maybe your launcher limits the number of apps present in the list? I don't have this issue with my Oppo running Oreo but I remember my old LG G4, I have to "pin" an app to let it in the recent apps list, if I don't pin it the app will be removed.

No, not that I'm seeing. As I wrote in another thread, I'm using the same launcher, ADW Launcher EX, that I've used for years. I've checked its settings against my previous phone's and they're all the same.

How would I 'pin' an app as you've mentioned?

LG specially create a "pin" feature for it's stock launcher. A pinned app will remain until you remove it.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I've still had no luck finding a solution--plus it's annoying me more every day. :saddroid:

Kindly read my OP for details, but in summary, with some additional info:

- brand new Moto Z² Force Edition
- Oreo 8.0.0
- apps do not remain in 'recents'
- but they're NOT closed--they're in limbo somewhere
- I've un-optimized each app's memory
- my launcher's settings are not causing this
- my previous phone, which I still use daily, Moto X 2nd Generation running 5.1, keeps ALL apps in its recent list until I close them
- that's what I want

There must be a solution...

Is there a square button on by the thumbprint? Can you do that, and select all above the running app... oh wait that is how you started that though.. hmmm...

Have you downloaded Ccleaner, that should take care of it..

No, and no it won't. :)

This is not a memory problem. My old phone has far less memory, but easily keeps 15+ apps open AND listed in its recent list.

The new phone keeps those same apps open but does not show most of them in recents. At most, I'll have 4 or 5 listed, while the others disappear into limbo.

Relaunching them from the app drawer not only 'opens' them instantaneously, but exactly where they were before they disappeared. For example, if I'm in the middle of writing a tweet in the Twitter app and leave to do something else, Twitter disappears from recents, but when I relaunch it from the app drawer, I'm right back in the partially-composed tweet. If Twitter had actually closed, upon relaunching I'd have to log in.

Hmm... Alright...

Can you swipe left or right to dismiss the app,or even pus on the circle to make it vanish without being pinned?

Moody have you tried the adw, it automatically helps you swipe away those annoying bugs. Just wondering .
No, that's kind of the opposite of my issue, dear. :)

I don't want them disappearing; I want them to stay in my recents list until I close them.

Try Nova, Try launcher Labs, they will stick on there forever. Do not swipe over :D They will not go away at all, so the idle timer is at when you just have it over and will just eat a small percentage of the phone, like 0.1% :)

I have (but don't use) Nova, but don't recall seeing anything in its settings that would affect this. I'll fire it up and check again...
