Help Controlling status bar color

I'm absolutely loving my brand-new Moto Z² Force Edition. I've had it for a few days, and I'm still tweaking its look and feel. But I'm coming up empty when it comes to controlling the color of its status bar.

I want the status bar to remain dark/shaded, as it did on my old phone, a Moto X 2nd Generation. Instead, it's picking up the color of the app currently being used (the old phone did, too, but shaded dark).

So if I'm using something white, the status bar is bright white, and its icons change from white to black. I want the status bar dark, with white icons. Compare new and old:

I'm using ADWLauncher EX; I've gone through its bazillion settings without luck. Ditto for device settings.

Any ideas?

Well, I've found a workaround, which is not perfect, so if anyone has further input, please post.

My workaround: an app called Status Bar & Notch from the Play Store. It only controls the color of the status bar, not the color of its contents. So I've set its color and opacity to work most like what I want, but it's not as good as what I had on my previous phones.

Yes it's not perfect because you have more an app running in the background, eating out your phone's battery and memory.

But still better than nothing.

For one thing, I really like this launcher. Plus, it's the same launcher that's on my old phone, so it's not the culprit. I mean assuming I haven't missed something in its settings.

You never indicated shat launcher you are using.

If it is the launcher that came with the Moto Z2 Force it is highly likely that it is not the same launcher used on any other phone.

I've been through a lot of Motorola phones and the one thing that was really annoying was that every new phone was a new launcher and every new major software release was a new launcher.

I solved this by using Nova Launcher Prime on all of my phones … configured my way. New phone … I configure it my way. I have been using it for years.

In Nova Launcher Prime I always use the transparent option that shows the wall paper in the notification bar.

For you I turned the option off and Nova Launcher Prime makes it darker than the application title and in many cases it is black. If the application title is white Nova Launcher Prime makes it dark gray.

I've used ADW forever; it has many more settings than Nova, as I recall. Thanks for doing some experimenting for me! I appreciate it.

Baby you are brilliant, I am wondering that myself if there was like one, like in the back of my head, my old Samsung GS3 had such a perfect drop down menu changer :)

Really all that???? Just changed back ground wall paper to all black
Where to begin...?

Changing the wallpaper has no effect on the status bar picking up the color of the app currently being used. And even if it did...

Getting rid of my beautiful AniPet Koi live wallpaper, which I've used for ≈10 years is not an option.
