...take overly yellow pictures in low light situations?

I mean it's not going to be the best color representation without decent lighting but it seems that all the pictures I take turn out yellow. I have the white balance set to auto but it always gives at least a bit too yellow hue.

It seems that even when I take photos in normal lighting they turn out a bit reddish or at least a bit too saturated compared to other phones.

Anyone else have these problems?

I have this problem and it really ticks me off. "Incandescent" mode is not an option either, as it looks terrible. I wish it would just take the photo as it appears in the preview, which always looks 10x better than the horrible yellow results.

And this isn't in just in "low" light. I just tried taking a photo of something in my home with a flood of natural light. There is PLENTY of light in here, and the color in my photo looks absolutely disgusting. I can't believe this made it out of Google, but considering the lack of polish in other areas of the phone, I'm not too surprised.

Nexus One
While we love the Google Nexus One for its simplicity and speed, the camera doesn't offer much in the way of features and won't truly let you utilize its 5-megapixel abilities.

HTC Desire vs Nexus One: Camera software from HTC Desire Sense UI

Originally, the only way to get the awesome Desire camera software was to install the entire HTC Sense UI on your Nexus One. This was less than convenient as it reduced the blazing speeds offered by the Android OS. Now a basic update from MoDaCo allows you to grab the Desire camera software without having to load the rest of Desire and Sense software.

The quick update requires you to download a file to your microSD card and then reboot the device. Voila, a fully capable 5-megapixel camera with Desire camera software.

Nexus One camera software downloads (.ZIP)

MCR 2.1: MCR 2.1

CM 5.0.5.3: CM 5.0.5.3

Enomther .18.1: Enomther .18.1

Someone wanna post their results?? :D

umm im pretty sure you DO NEED ROOT. The camera only works on the CM rom, Enmother ROM, MCR ROM and of course the desire ROM which you do need root to install. THe HTC camera is much much better than the stock camera :)

I also remember reading that a patch for the camera was coming. The post is somewhere in the google forums.

So is there no other solution than this hack? It still stuns me that the camera takes pictures this way. The white balance is outright awful, yet it seems like there's no acknowledgement from Google or HTC. I mean, it's crazy, I can't take a single picture in low light or even anything the slightest bit below full sunlight. It seems like even if I'm in the shade of a tree, my photo turns out yellow.

Due to this and a few other issues, I'm really pissed at Google's customer support, which is nonexistent.

*edit*
I just wanted to say, I always see people suggesting that you turn the white balance to "incandescent." I think that's a horrible option. First of all, it does take care of the yellow-ness, but it looks almost as bad in a completely different way. Plus, I shouldn't have to change the white balance every single time I switch between settings. To make it all worse, I don't know about you guys but for some reason the pull-out box for the camera settings seems completely unresponsive. It always takes me about 8 tries to get it to swipe out.

I use Camera Pro, you have the option of editing the colours/contrast etc after you took the pic but before you save it.
My apologies, but I don't think that's an acceptable solution. It's altering the already taken image. I doubt the Nexus One is taking RAW images that you can merely alter the white balance on. It's already taken the image, and the program is just doing things you could do in an image editor afterwards.

I'm glad it works for you, but I want Google or HTC to fix the problem so that the camera its self takes the pictures correctly.

i love the improvements on the camera! you can change the settings with the video recording. plus you can turn on the flash for lighting in the dark O_O!

Yeah much improved camera. Can flip phone around to take pics and takes nice pics in low light conditions! Also love the fact u can turn on the flash to use as a light for video.

A couple of months ago I tried to take a picture with my N1's camera and it would not work. The phone would not recognize it. I rebooted the phone several times. Called Google and they could not come up with a solution. Finally spoke to HTC and they had me basically try all the same steps. When it was obvious it was not going to work I was able to get HTC to send me another phone. A couple of representatives that I spoke to told me that they have never had this problem with anyone else.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?
