Help Phone abruptly shut down!

Okay, so I had just commented in the Pricey thread that I've never had a single problem with any of my Motorola phones...

And then, on my <1 month old Moto Z² Force, I used its camera for the first time, snapping one picture and then, about to snap another, the phone went black. Its three buttons (home, etc.) were still lit, but didn't respond to touch.

Its battery had gone down to ≈28% so it was charging as this was happening; it was now at ≈46% charged.

The back of the phone was hot.

I pressed the power button, but nothing happened. Then, two or three times in a row, after long-pressing power I got the "Motorola Powered by Android" screen with vibration, followed by no power. Finally, another long-press got the rebooting process going, and now everything's normal...or is it?!

Nothing like this has ever happened on any of my Android (all Motorola) phones. Um...should I be concerned? Being a Linux-only person, I'm not accustomed to sudden, random lockups, reboots, etc., and certainly don't expect them on my Linux (Android) phone.

Ideas?

The only time I experienced the same issue was when the battery of one of my phones goes bad. Fortunately it's removable.

I haven't tried--yet. I think I'm scared to. I've just spent a month tweaking and customizing the hell out of it. I need to make sure I have all that backed up before potentially sending it back to Motorola for a replacement.

The only time I experienced the same issue was when the battery of one of my phones goes bad. Fortunately it's removable.

This phone is brand new, so not only should its battery not have gone bad, but I'm sure it's not removable.

Great idea...except that I ordered it online from Motorola. Damn!

You could order the return for repair stickers and then send them a turd in a box like they did you...

Try using another camera app to see if it happens again. If it does, it could be the battery being unable to deliver stable power to the phone.

Take a couple of shots with flash, it will create some stress on the battery. A good battery will function normally.

It could be a 'perfect storm', Moody. You were using the camera and charging the phone at the same time. You've already said that you have spotty coverage there, so you're radios were probably operating at full power to maintain connection and when you snapped the first picture, if you have images set to backup to Google, it was also uploading over the WiFi radio. That's a lot of stress on a battery.

That said, it should never get so hot with normal use that it's thermal protection circuitry kicks in. I would consider using the phone while charging "normal use".

1.check if the board is.not bad
2.try removing the battery even if is unscrewing the phone and putting it back
u can see videos on youtube
3.try plugging.the phone to system if hear any sound means to download flashing tool to flash the phobe
4.check if the power button or any flex is damaged
5.change battery
6.give to a reliable quality shop
repair shop

This is a brand new phone, so while I appreciate your suggestions, I won't do them--I'll simply get a replacement new phone from Motorola.

What's funny is that I have a camera app I've used for years, A Better Camera Unlocked, but I hadn't gotten around to putting its launcher down by the app drawer button yet. Since the default camera's button was there, I used it. I'll give the other app a try--after I back up all my customization settings!

Yes, but only in regards to cellular data, not wifi; I was in airplane mode [as usual...*sigh*] when this happened.

They're not only automatically going to Google, but Amazon as well.

The thing is, my 4-year-old phone never had a problem with any of this. I've simply duplicated on the new phone the way I had the old one set up--same apps, same backing up, same everything. And the 4yo Moto X 2nd Generation has nowhere NEAR the new one's specs. Naturally, I expected it to do everything the old one did, and then some!

So...I just held my breath and tried again, sort of. The charger wasn't plugged in and I used my normal camera app. Snapped a few pics without issue.

Oh! Before any of that, I made sure I had everything important currently backed up.

My next suggestion was going to be clearing the cache/data for the camera app.

There shouldn't have been anything, as that incident yesterday was the first time I had used the [new] phone's camera.

Do an FPR, have to clear your cache, it should work after that quick, it is the power button as well as volume down, when you turn it off
