This odd thing called a second hand book store.
My favorite place to lose myself for hours on weekends, when I lived in Dallas, was this great store called Half Price Books. They had tons of used books, but also brand-new ones half off. Upon moving back home to California, I was dismayed to find that chain only went as far west as Arizona. :(
Was looking for any of the Cthulhu books I didn't have and found it.
Nice! I'm glad you found what you were looking for.
I know in this day and age hardly any one actually reads a physical book anymore 😉😁
I do. So do my grandchildren. And their parents. And...lots of other people I know. All ages--not just old geezers like me. :D

I enjoyed two local used book stores for years. They are now closed. Both were owned and operated by the same party. I miss them greatly. There is nothing better than reading a real book and certainly nothing wrong with the second time through.

Short story and I hope it's enjoyable. On my mother-in-laws passing I was saddled with cleaning up her property to put it on the market. She was an avid reader of romance and western novels. She had thousands of them stacked and lining a bedroom of the home. I first tried to sell them and then tried to give them away to the above mentioned used book store. With zero interest I started, an arm load at a time, tossing them in the commercial dumpster I had placed on the drive. Armload after armload I'd grunt the books outside and heaved them over the side of the dumpster. One particular book caught the air and fanned the pages and out floated a couple of twenty dollar bills. Yep... you guessed it. I'm in the dumpster going through a zillion Zane Grey novels looking for jack. It paid off but what a hoot. Standing in a dumpster is not the ideal place to thumb through books. :)

It was. Very! I can just imagine digging through a dumpster. But, you know, for money, why not? :)

I think I've said before that one of my favorite places to go since moving back home is the Pasadena Central Library. I practically grew up in it--I was quite the bookworm. It's a beautiful 1927 building, with lots of nooks and crannies. (And, now, free WiFi, electrical outlets galore, self-checkout if you're so inclined and, of course, terminals have replaced the card catalog drawers.)

It's on my list of things to do as I continue getting better. I love its smell...I love the books' smell...is that weird?! :D

I pulled in less than a grand but she had money stuck willy nilly throughout her books. I'd like to think she knew what books contained her odd means of stashing cash... who knows. She was a bit eccentric
.
Not at all. I especially love the smell of new books. I even enjoyed the first day back at school each year for the couple of new books to read and smell. :) They all smell the same off of a reader.

No. I love visiting bookshops and libraries. I wish the local one hadn't closed down (Border's I think it was called). It had a coffee shop upstairs so you could relax and read over a nice cup of coffee.
At University, the library was one of my favourite places to be. So calm and quiet.
