Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL renders.. The Hole Punch has come to stay guys.

New renders of the upcoming Google Pixel smart phones, the Pixel 4 and 4 XL, Showcases the phones with three and four cameras in total respectively.

Two at the back and two at the front for the case of the 4 XL. and one at the back and one at the front for the regular Pixel 4.

But the carrot here is that they're gonna be adopting Samsung's signature hole punch camera cutouts, at least let's believe that's what it's gonna be for now, until we start seeing real life leak images..

Personally I think the punch hole is worse than a notch. Because you have to leave a bit of display above the hole to make it a hole, and yet cannot use that for anything, it wastes more space than a notch would for the same size camera. And putting it off to one side, especially the right, is silly too.

Still, that's Google: like they made the worst notch of 2018 I'm sure they'll jump on the worst bandwagon of 2019 as well.

(Of course all of this stuff is just rumours at the moment, and could all be completely untrue).

Just for the record, Samsung were not the first to release devices with such displays - Huawei released one last year. Though they put it on the left, which to my mind is less offensive than displacing the battery and signal icons.

(For me the pop-up would be better because it doesn't interfere with the display at all. And as I don't have any use for it in the first place I'd rather it didn't get in my way).

No no no.. you got it wrong there bro.. Samsung were the ones who first started working on punch hole displays, Huawei just wanted to take first credits for something that doesn't belong to them and that was why they had to move faster than their shadows just to launch their own punch hole display smart phones. But even at that, whenever you or anyone mention punch holes display, the first smart phones that comes to mind are Samsung's. i don't blame Huawei though, they're just trying to be relevant in the midst of the tight competition between Samsung and Apple..

I am correct that Huawei released one first. It may be that Samsung leaked what they were thinking and Huawei beat them to the punch, or that more than one company was thinking this way (I doubt anyone has enough access to both companies' internal documents to judge, and it's obvious what each would say if asked). But given that "fast following" has always been Samsung's MO I don't think we that they'd have any real grounds for complaint if Huawei beat them at their own game.

(I'd not really want it especially associated with me anyway. It's a transitional solution, on the way to something better like under-display cameras, rather than the final answer, and I predict will look old hat or low budget in a couple of years).

Here's the thing I actually saw the Huawei and Honor punch hole display phones at the local phone mall in December last year. So it's definitely before Samsung did one. And Samsung wasn't the first with a display embedded fingerprint reader either. BTW I don't care much for supposed leaked renders, I only care about what's available now that I can buy.

And quite frankly I don't think Apple are providing much competition at all now. The last iPhone 10 Xs didn't offer much at all over previous, apart from a higher price tag.

Hahahahahahah... you had me rolling on that 'except for a higher price tag' part... So higher prices is now part of major upgrades... Hahaha..

Steve Jobs will be rolling in his grave right now..
