How to listen to music with a bluetooth headset?

For a 23.7 billion dollar software company this is extremely rediculoustarded. (So much so, that I had to invent a new word to fully describe the situation.)

This is NOT a hardware malfuntion or compatibility failure. To resolve this entire problem, an Android software programmer at google simply needs to spend 5 minutes of his day creating a patch/update/app to resolve or wortharound this issue. There is no chance in hell that I am spending 30 minutes of my life jimmy-rigging my phone, everytime I want to play a podcast/talk-radio/audio book/etc. There is also no chance in hell I am going to get purchasing clearance from the wife for a new bluetooth headset with A2DP support.

What an embarassment for Google not to have this capability built in the Android OS.

Does anyone have a contact within Google this issue can be escalated to?

This is particularly "rediculoustarded" - great word, btw, - for G1 phones that require the adaptor for wired headphones. In fact, I just got the bt earphone so that I could listen to audiobooks without the headphone/adaptor wire cluster mess - now I am learning it won't work. And because, with the G1, you cannot enter the "**" rapidly, Aaron's endrun around doesn't work either...

I've said it before but BT in general is a pile of half working crap. "rediculoustarded" if you will. So it isn't entirely the fault of android, htc, or anyone else. If all it took was "5 minutes" of developers time it would have been years ago. It ain't that easy and even then it might not work very well.

Given that, my easy solution is a proper stereo headset/headphone. I won't fight things trying to get a headset working. even then I get random BT drops but most of the time it works and doesn't look any sillier than those BT headsets. But a cabled headset works best just like all those white cabled people use.

This may or may not work for you, save a contact number of 'p', ( that letter is available when a contact is created for the Hero, and is the same as **, saving a contact with ** doesnt work)

This opens the mono BT connection on the hero without using A2DP. Shortcut the contact to the home screen and you have quick access to opening the bt connection.

On the hero the connection stays open, with a little luck it'll work on other model phones as well

I can tell you for a fact that the right developer could solve this problem rather quickly and this is how I know. First off I got a moment after being with windows mobile phones for years. They have been doing it for years and well. I mean it worked every time. I never had a problem not once with three different phones and countless (probably 10) headsets. I could not believe when I got the moment and bluetooth support was so shoddy. I mean bluetooth has been out for ever and the phone couldnt even transfer files. Secondly, on more than one occasion my moment has messed up and stuck after a call and ALL of the system audio WAS routed through my mono bluetooth headset (Moto H710). It has actually worked, just did not stay that way, so it is strictly a programming issue. I have now purchased a Jabbra headset that supports A2DP and it will work but still plays audio through the speaker as well. Why is this so hard? Because it's not important to Google. I have created instances in Google codesite here: Issue 7906 - android - Audio routing to mono bluetooth headsets - Project Hosting on Google Code and still no love. It's stupid!

You can't bluetooth listen to music with a mono bluetooth headset (One ear, one speaker) only stero blue tooth enabled headphones.

That's funny, the reason I am checking here today is to see if I can make mine NOT defau;lt to playing music through my earpiece. I listen to music and podcasts in my car through my aux in connector, but I I turn on my headset it stops and continues playing music through the earpiece. I have to go into bluetooth settings and uncheck music. I would like to make it not play through the earpiece by default.

This means that unless you pay the fee you can't use it unless you reverse engineer it which is what linux has had to do for years. Android is open source so they can't pay the license and then include the code for all to see and use. Winmo doesn't give you the source code for anything so they can use the code since you won't see it.

All those winmo toys paid the bt tax so that is why they work, nothing to do about caring.

Good thing I googled this topic before posting it in another area. I want this same functionality on my N1. I didn't realize this was a WinMo thing, but that would explain why my Q9h and 2125 (to an extent) were able to do this but my N1 can't. For me, I just want to be able to listen to Sirius XM while I'm out and about without obnoxious headphone wires hanging out. I also liked that I could be listening to music, then get a phone call and easily just hit the button and answer the call. Still, this is more of a "nice to have" than a dealbreaker for me. The lack of this ability is very much lessened by the additional games and full web browsing I now have that the Q9h handled about as well as an octopus trying to ski.

Well, THIS finally explains the "problem". I used bluetooth audio on my Touch Pro when I was using my navigation program. It was near impossible to hear the directions through the phone speaker when it was quiet, nevermind having a conversation or god forbid, listen to the stereo! LOL!

So does this mean it IS impossible to do with a mono BT? if so, that sucks and I guess I'll have to pony up to buy a stereo BT set at some point. sigh...

I have spent the better part of today looking for a solution to this issue.

I am leaving June 15th for a 10,000 mile motorcycle trip and my Cardo Scala Rider in-helmet bluetooth headset does not support A2DP/stereo audio. I want to be able to listen to music (what the system was designed for), but can't using my Motorola Droid. This is VERY frustrating, being so close but yet so far from a solution.

Browsing Android Marketplace, I found an app called "Sound Route Switcher"
The description seems to say it does exactly what I want to do, but after reading the reviews, seemes to be a fake program or at least doesn't work for anyone.

I would willingly pay someone to develop an app to route media audio to a mono bluetooth device.

PS: the ** or *** or "pause" deal didnt work for me on the Motorola Droid.

Who makes the S9 headset? I'll see if I can find them cheap. It will be worth getting them if for the foreseable future an app cannot be developed. How well do they work for phonecalls? I love my Plantronics Voyager Pro and would hate giving it up for crap.

Nevermind - I found them. Motorola.

My main concern is whether they will play the navigation instructions.

I was also reading the reviews and it seems that the S9-hd ones are constructed better than just the S9's, So I'll probably order those - IF they work.

So if someone can let me know, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I don't know about so called HD headsets/headphones, it is still BT and that can only be so good and never match wired. I probably wouldn't pay a premium for what is likely minimal or bogus.

Nav instructions work fine, I used it this week. Otherwise you'd never understand the instructions from the phone speaker in the car. Phone works fine and acts like a regular headset.


Know that the S9 and other behind the head units aren't good for lying down or wearing a helmet. BT in 2.1 is better than it was in 1.5 but will still stutter if WiFI is busy downloading. You might occasionally have to repair but that's a BT issue I have with all devices I've tried. Mine works fine but I still despise BT in general.

Thank you sooo much! The reason I mentioned the hd ones was because it seemed that a lot of the reviews on Amazon said the regular ones had not so great build quality and that the hd's were better.

Bottom line - I'm not looking for high quality music audio, just something that will play my navigation instructions and have good call quality. Oh, and not break after using them three times or something. LOL!

As we both said - it's IMPOSSIBLE to hear the instructions through the phone speaker unless there's anything but dead silence in the car! LOL!

I use Sprint Nav ALL the time. When out running errands, it's essential! That's why I'm dying to find something that will play the sound through my headset.

Id also like this ability and it should be pushed for in the OS as I would of thought any license/reverse eng. had been done already because android can play calls to mono devices and music to stereo ones so a software fix is possible especially for google

I have the same problem on the HTC desire, can't route music to a mono BT earpiece. This just worked on previous Nokia phones. I would have to guess that this isn't a BT profile support issue as calls are directed to the earpiece OK. I guess that the OS doesn't see stereo audio as compatible with the headset profile. I'll try the super bt mono app and see what happens. the mono earpiece is really useful on a bike cos you can keep the other ear open for traffic

Newbie here but this did not work for me on Droid 2 Global. Also, it says it is free for trial only (5 days) I am not sure if it would crap out after 5 days. The author's English language skills are/were not stellar but the home screen indicated a certain lack of grammar skills for a 6th grader level.

Needless to say, I am removing this app from my phone.

Also, I don't know how A2DP works w/ stereo BT devices, but isn't there a bright enough programmer, who can take a streo feed from Music player, just plain cancel one channel out and feed it as a phone conversation audio channel ? Is it this hard ? It was the same with my old blackberry curve. Make phone calls with BT but not able to play music. And all I listen to is audiobooks or podcasts where stereophonic sound does nothing special.

Oh by the way, in desperation, I have tried the Billie Mays (R.I.P.) touted Jupiter Jack (from my local Wlgreens store) to feed the audio to my car stereo and it was a total waste of time as the dinky transmitter is not strong enough to broadcast to the radio sitting 10 inches from it.

Eagerly awaiting a mono BT solution.
